The Reality of Invisible Burden: Cailleach and Brân the Blessed This is the third of seven realities in this series on living with chronic conditions and dynamic disability, explored through language, concepts and images from Celtic folklore. humanisticsystems.com/2026/08/12/t...

Many people are much more severely affected: housebound, bedbound, dependent on care, and unable to write or advocate for themselves. I am writing partly because I currently can, and partly because many people with severe ME/CFS cannot.
My own illness has been at the mild to moderate end of ME/CFS, but even this has changed work, identity, relationships, and ordinary life.
It also describes the strange unreliability of remission: how feeling better can make the illness harder to remember, and can tempt a return to previous levels of activity, often followed by post-exertional malaise and relapse.
The post describes how ME/CFS affects far more than energy. Its many symptoms affect cognition, sleep, pain, movement, digestion, sensitivity, social life, work, and identity.
My brother is taking on one of Britain’s most demanding endurance challenges for @meresearchuk.bsky.social ME/CFS can leave people unable to work, study, socialise, or manage ordinary daily activities. ME Research UK commissions and funds high-quality biomedical research into ME/CFS. Thank you🙏🏻
The video is a bit expansive…more drawn to the expansive blue sky outside :D
Inevitably… (Also annoying that the Venn diagram - im in 3-5 sets that seem to overlap but not here…)
Seems this reflects a general finding that significant advantages remain (in muscle mass, bone structure and density, VO2 max, as well as any height and reach advantage obviously), hence the suggested open/third category. There’s usually a middle way, or I like to think so…
My solution to public transport lighting problems - huge dark overglasses and peak caps
James Reason (1938-2025) I learned yesterday that Prof. James Reason died. Thanks for the inspiration, Jim. But most importantly, at this time, we hold him, his family and those who loved him, to the light. www.linkedin.com/posts/steven...
🟡 Dealing with gaps in the loop Despite advances in technology, human intervention often prevents accidents and more generally ensures that things work, filling in the gaps. Human involvement remains essential, argues Anders Ellerstrand skybrary.aero/sites/defaul...
Fin du ski. Max was >9700 ft. Breathing is still possible if you sigh regularly at snowboarders.
🔵 SEEING THE PEOPLE IN CONTROL My Editorial in the latest EUROCONTROL HindSight magazine (issue 36) on 'People in Control: Staying in the Loop'. skybrary.aero/sites/defaul... I reflect on the nature of control and propose nine principles to help ‘see’ the people in control, as:

I’m at 7,350 feet and it’s a hell of lot of people and noise and fluorescent light on the way. Destimulation mode ▶️
This is a reasonable accommodation for autistic people at work and at home.
Lucy’s book When The Dust Settles is the only one that I own in three formats (audio, paper and kindle) and have ‘audioread’ in two simultaneously (recommended - Lucy is the narrator of her own life and work). Her forthcoming book Come What May is released in May 2025.
Edinburgh in December. The gorse flowers are after coming out thinking it’s April!
If, like me, you are not a fan of Memoji’s and keep tapping the icon by accident when trying to tap an emoji, you can remove the Memoji icon via settings_keyboard_emoji stickers <off> You’re welcome.
I just received an article proposal…70% ChatGPT on checking. Then I had to waste time writing a response tell them that we do not accept ChatGPT articles (I’m not ignoring it or making another excuse). On reflection, I should have written in the style of ChatGPT.
Are you an airline pilot or air traffic controller diagnosed as autistic* or ADHD? If so, and if you’d be willing to have a chat as a basis for an article and talk on neurodivergence and diagnosis, please DM me or contact[at]humanisticsystems.com
This is an example of casual ignorance of, or lack of care about, wheelchair users, those with pushchairs for children, and people with walking frames. Consistant issue in Edinburgh. An excess of poles and street furniture doesn’t help.
