Has to be experienced in IMAX because… Mr. Nolan, you have done it again 👏
While we're at it, let's have more TV adaptations of Toho mutant movies. Give us the MATANGO miniseries! THE H-MAN! SECRET OF THE TELEGIAN! More! MORE!
Enjoyed the new HUMAN VAPOR. Not all of its many twists and turns totally work and it never quite recaptures the thrilling heights of its first two episodes, but it's incredibly ambitious and filled with great performances. Above all, insane to see this story revived. Would happily take more! 😶🌫️
Reminder that I maintain a schedule of upcoming UK/EIRE kaiju screenings. Lots coming up soon in Derby, Newcastle, Glasgow, and more, as well as the UK premieres of GMK and GODZILLA 2000 (the former on 35mm) in London! 📽️ Check out the schedule here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
We’re delighted to present the long-awaited UK premieres of TWO Millennium-era Godzilla films: Shusuke Kaneko's fan favourite GMK (on 35mm for its 25th anniversary), and GODZILLA 2000: MILLENNIUM! To say I’m overjoyed to be introducting both of these landmark screenings is an understatement 🥹
Clearly it would be unfair to make cinephiles choose between me and Pedro Almodóvar. Thankfully, the Barbican scheduled us on separate days to avoid mass outrage
Watching ULTRAMAN: THE ULTIMATE HERO. In a strange coincidence, this character from the episode ‘Tails from the Crypts’ is called “Doctor Whittaker”… 🧐
Also very fun to see Niiyama in an episode featuring Pagos, a monster originally built from a Baragon suit back in the '60s. In a way, she's reuniting with her GMK co-star... Baragon!
Stray thought about KONG: SKULL ISLAND: Tom Hiddleston talks about watching his dad ship off for WWII, never to see him again. On Skull Island, he meets a presumed-dead WWII veteran who has a son he’s never met (for now). For some reason, the film isn’t interested in doing something with this.
Started watching ULTRAMAN TAIGA and loving it. Also lovely to see Chiharu Niiyama in another kaiju project, aka our beloved Yuri Tachibana from GMK
OUTDOOR KAIJU CINEMA IS BACK AT THE BARBICAN! 🐲🐲🐲 GHIDORAH, THE THREE-HEADED MONSTER screens at the Barbican's outdoor cinema on Sunday 23 August, with a brand new and exclusive video introduction from me! Tickets and info: www.barbican.org.uk/whats-on/202...
Central Scotland! On 18 July, I’m introducing a screening of GODZILLA (1954) at Made in Stirling as part of the insanely talented The Grey Earl’s Teenage Flicks exhibition 🦖 🎨 Tickets are on sale now: www.tickettailor.com/events/madei...
Had SO much fun in Dundee introducing GAMERA VS. GUIRON for Bizarro Video Club! An absolutely riotous crowd that quite rightly brought the house down multiple times, particularly Gamera’s ✨ iconic ✨ horizontal bar spin. Than you for having me! 📼 🐢
I still don't really get what the deal is with the dummy/mannequin police officer Matsu uses to crash Inspector Goda's car in FEMALE PRISONER SCORPION: JAILHOUSE 41. Am I missing or forgetting something?
Platinum’d Ghost of Yotei and thought it was absolutely bloody terrific. A pretty remarkable improvement on (and sensible refinement of) an already winning formula with, IMO, a stronger emotional core and more compelling protagonist. Highly recommended 👹
