Sec. 8.07. - Recall.

Any person holding an elective office, other than an office created by special law, may be removed by recall. The petition shall state at the head of each page a demand for the removal of the officer, the office held, and a brief description of the grounds for recall.

Sec. 8.02. - Petition.

Initiative, referendum or recall shall be initiated
by a petition … signed by registered voters of the city equal in number to twenty (20) percent of those who voted for the office of mayor in the last preceding city election in the case of recall of the office of mayor.

As someone who was 25 in 2008, Greenspan is one of those people permanently entrenched in my mind as wholly villainous.

After the September 11, 2001 attacks, the Federal Open Market Committee voted to reduce the federal funds rate from 3.5% to 3.0%. Then, after the accounting scandals of 2002, the Fed dropped the federal funds rate from then current 1.25% to 1.00%. Greenspan stated that this drop in rates would have the effect of leading to a surge in home sales and refinancing, adding that "Besides sustaining the demand for new construction, mortgage markets have also been a powerful stabilizing force over the past two years of economic distress by facilitating the extraction of some of the equity that homeowners have built up over the years"

In a February 23, 2004, speech, Greenspan suggested that more homeowners should consider taking out adjustable-rate mortgages (ARMs) where the interest rate adjusts itself to the current interest in the market. The Fed's own funds rate was at a then-all-time low of 1%. A few months after his recommendation, Greenspan began raising interest rates, in a series of rate hikes that would bring the funds rate to 5.25% about two years later. A triggering factor in the subprime mortgage crisis is believed to be the many subprime ARMs that reset at much higher interest rates than what the borrower paid during the first few years of the mortgage.

I’ve posted that Maine does not have to settle for Platner as their democratic candidate for senator. Well here we are Minnesota DFL. The font-runner for governor is openly running AGAINST the party’s policy agenda. DFL does not have to settle for Klobuchar for governor.

Klobuchar also took a dig at the Democratic-Farmer-Labor trifecta in 2023 and 2024, which spent the state’s then-$18 billion budget surplus. The trifecta made significant investments in education, housing and in the creation of a state-run paid leave program.

She said that had she been governor at the time, she would have put more money into “things that just aren’t that glamorous,” such as improving water and sewer systems and modernizing computer systems for counties and state government. Doing the latter might have helped government more easily monitor potential fraud.
