Basement recording session last night. Blues based rockabilly surf vibe tune. Finished comping the vocals and put down a couple test guitar solo tracks. Just gotta fill in a couple of 4-bar slots and a 12-bar to the turnaround slot. Using the Gretsch 5422. #recording #guitar #music
My grandfather Francis Eric Durrant. WWI and WWII photos. Fought for freedom and democracy in both wars. #remembranceday #war #canada
My two newly released tunes got some FM radio airplay. Cool. #music #audio #recording #songwriting #radio
Sold my Squier Tele and got a new axe this weekend for just a few bucks more. 2011 Gibson Melody Maker SG with awesome mods. Locking Sperzel tuners, adjustable Gotoh bridge, DiMarzio bluesbucker pickup (plus original pickup). Quality hard case. Great high gain tones. A whole lotta fun. #guitar
Stepped out the kitchen door with a coffee this morning and picked some Sunday breakfast. Yum. #gardening #food
Harvested some garlic scapes from the garden today and prepped them for making soup. #gardening #food
Good evening session in the basement. Got the bass line on the new song. Took about 8 takes to nail it. Jeez, fine art to play a good bass line without dominating or taking over the song. Basically, keeping it simple but also interesting, with a few good line runs that don’t compete or conflict.
Good basement recording session last night. 21 vocal takes on the new song. Another angst driven political tune, although more reflective and deeper than the last one. Big tempo change too. Starts at 66 bpm then switches to 140 bpm. Having fun. #music #recording
In the basement building the artwork for my new rockabilly protest tune. Hopefully I’ll get it up on youtube etc in the next day or so. Tweaking the mix a bit more too. Backing chorus vocals turned out okay. Playing with final levels. Here’s a recent sunny day pic of my basement music corner.
Annual dental visit today. Hygienist teeth cleaning then dentist. All good. Thank you NDP, Libs and the Canada Dental Care Plan which covered $220 from a $270 invoice. I paid $50. Stopped by the local thrift store on the way home. Found this awesome book for $2. Sunny weather too.
Another evening of basement recording working on the new song. Tweaking rhythm guitar tracks. Checked my earshot distro DDS stats page tonight and found out my last song “Blue Skies In My Mind” just got some FM radio airplay in Ontario. That’s cool. #music #radio #recording #guitar #musician
In the basement tonight putting down some prelim tracks to see how my new song will work. Got a satisfyingly nasty repetitive synth saw wave going on, along with some heavy distortion guitar riffs from the Keeley Angry Orange and Bigsby Tele. Writing lyrics now. #music #recording #guitar #audio
Yeah, and the masses need to stand up, mobilize and fight for democracy. Saw this post on mastodon this morning.
Ahh, the ol’ 57 on the cardboard box trick. Getting fairly decent results recording acoustic guitar tonight with the CAD pencil condenser mic on the 12th fret and the SM57 clone on the lower bout. Each mic is picking up different frequency ranges, and the 57 isn’t too boomy, so that’s cool. #music
My best sounding & playing acoustic guitar is made right here in Canada by Godin in a small Quebec village. Goes head to head with any Martin or Collings. And very affordable. Solid mahogany top, back and sides, rosewood fretboard. Killer tone. Make great electrics too. Just sayin’. #guitars #canada
Put down some G harp tracks on my new original song last night. Harp solo between second and final verse. This G harp is fairly new so breaking it in. Running the harp through the Apex 327 bullet mic into the MXR Timmy and straight to interface. Sounds good. #harp #blues #music #recording
Recording down in the basement tonight. Working on the new original song. Finished comping vocals and finished the bass track. Woohoo, time for some harp. Getting closer to mixing. #music #guitar #recording #songwriting
Down in the basement with the bicycles tonight, tracking the Gretsch 5422. #music #recording #songwriting #guitar
