Unsurprisingly, a bumper day for #solarPV electricity generation in the UK. Also high gas use either side of the solar peak with winds so light. Note the wholesale price - see how solar generation pulls gas usage and the price down...
Seems Farage has lost @telegraph.co.uk . These are all on the front of their home page today following his announcement. What has turned them from cheerleaders to critics, I wonder??
No doubt a good story, but weak financial reporting from @theguardian.com on this story. Implies that Farage invested £215k, then shares dropped by 15.48%, costing him £565k. Presuming the £565k is the company's loss, but if you're going to write a financial story, make it crystal clear.
Solar currently generating more than 43% of UK electricity. If the price wasn't being set by expensive gas, it would be a cheap day for the UK.
Well, yesterday was pretty special.... I spent an hour or so escorting the Princess Royal (Princess Anne) around RHS Chelsea. She was attentive and warm to everyone she met. A memorable day for everyone. x

Fortunately the political cost of allowing it is too high for any UK gvt to consider.. Our geology is too complex, too densely populated and as for the water supply and the waste disposal issues... There isn't anywhere you can hide it away... And anyway - solarPV and wind are destroying gas demand
Wonderful to see so much UK electricity being generated from wind and solar right now. Less than 5% gas (which is almost certainly propping the price up much higher than it would otherwise be...
What drives the price of electricity in the UK? The graph on the left is UK electricity generation today by source. Gas is orange, wind is green, solar is yellow. The graph on the right tracks the price. Compare the price graph line and the gas graph line. The more gas we use, the higher the unit £.

Almost 25% of UK electricity demand is being generated by the sun right now. In March. Fab isn't it? If the cost wasn't being driven by the price of gas, it would be cheap too.
Regardless of the wind record, surely a record renewable combination peak at 32.4GW
Such a relief when the wind blows, and the UK's wind turbines are turning. As a result less than 5% of UK electricity is being generated by gas, driving the wholesale price down to 2p per kWhr.
