Sine is forced below the water. From my SF short story WIP #WritingPrompt #WritingCommunity

"The freezing water lapped at its heels, sending a shiver up through its whole body.
“Stop. Wash yourself off,” Lyrann said. “I want to see the face of the one who took everything from me.”
Sine paused, up to its calves in water. Foam rippled where the waves met.
Lyrann got impatient and grabbed Sine by the back of the neck and shoved it down. It fell to its knees. The rebel forced Sine’s face under the water. Bubbles frothed from its mouth and nose. The salt stung, its face went numb from the cold. Sine thrashed against its attacker, trying to force its head back above, into the air. It weakened and weakened."

“One thing I know for sure is—” Lyrann moved closer, Sine could feel her breath on its skin. “I hate you. I hate you for what you’ve done, I hate you for the masters that you serve. Now, I can’t hate a thing, can I? I can’t hate some mindless automaton, some force of nature, because to hate is human. You hate something with a face and you have a face, a pretty little face with big black eyes and a fucking button nose, with this innocent look like you’ve done nothing wrong in your fucking life. I hate you, therefore you are.”

This rebel was clearly insane. That anti-logic coming from a Cadet would get it chucked out of an airlock before it could finish its sentence.

“I am an extension of Dyeus’ will. Once I have served my duty, I have earned my humanity and can become a Citizen with full rights. Only then, will I be human, as you put it. You are not the arbiter of who is and who is not a person, that is the responsibility of Dyeus and Dyeus alone,” Sine said.

This only made Lyrann’s grin wider and toothier. She tossed something rectangular in its direction and it fumbled to catch it. It was a meal bar in a silvery package. Sine’s stomach rumbled.

“That’s for listening like a good girl. I’ll be back later.”

snippet from a WIP short story: Empty.
It was all so empty, so vast, so unimaginably vast and empty and cold and dark. There wasn’t even death because something would have had to be alive to have died, and it seemed to Sine that nothing could have ever lived there, not naturally, not as Dyeus would have intended.
There were few visible stars in this sector. So many had been harvested by Domain’s uncountable drones, and the rest were blotted out by the swarm’s writhing masses. The light was Dyeus’ to give as it was His to take. Sine would be rewarded with light one day soon, it only had to complete its righteous duty, its most sacred of missions.
The JB-11 Lightweight Fighter purred beneath Sine as if in anticipation. It gripped the controls tighter, the ridges of the palm-rest pressing lines into its hands, marking it as its Pilot, its mind and will. The signal they followed grew stronger.

excerpt from WIP fantasy novel Strings: touched her hand again, and Ellis’ heart skipped multiple beats. She was starting to feel a little lightheaded.
“Here, put your middle finger just behind the second fret of the ‘A’ string, like that. Don’t put your thumb so high up, just pinch it.” Enyo’s voice was gentle, quiet.
She followed what Ellis told her, Enyo’s hands guiding hers. The tips of her fingers felt hot, her hands were starting to sweat.
“The ring finger goes on the second fret of the ‘D’ string.”
The strings were cold against her fingers, she could feel the woven texture of the metal brush against the ridges of her prints. Enyo’s hands moved away from hers.
“Try strumming like that,” Enyo whispered.
