Erm yes. Many of us have bad fortune with them - me included. I wonder if the places we tend to put them for light are frequently places that are well-ventilated. I poisoned mine by cooking chutney in the kitchen. The acidic fumes turned the fern brown. Like an acid rain experiment :(

Since there's a lot of love for all things algal right now... A chunk of Jurassic stromatolite, a structure formed by repeated layers of sediment and microbial mats (often cyanobacteria), making a blobby hummock. These guys have been doing their thing for 3.5 billion years. #FossilFriday ⚒️🌍🟢🔬🧪

Need to reset my Selaginella uncinata container. I'm struck by how white but otherwise perfect some of the poor tortured plants are. Reminds me of bleached coral.

No-one would have believed, in the last years of the nineteenth century, that hu-man affairs were being watched from the timeless worlds of space. No-one could have dreamed we were being scrutinised, as someone with a micro-scope studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. Few men even considered the possibility of life on other planets. And yet, across the gulf of space, minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this Earth with envious eyes and, slowly and surely, they drew their plans against us.
`Dum! dum! daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah?' demanded a furious string section. The air was thick with D minor. `Dum! dum! daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah?,' they insisted. `Dum! durni daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah?' they asked again, their urgency redoubling, and then, by way of answeringthseir own strange and terrible question, came to a grim, resigned conclusion. Turn! dum! daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.' There was moment of stillness, and then there came a disco beat so tight, so in the pocket, that I can still recall it with near perfect vividity. The muscular exertion of the sixteenth-notes on the hi-hat and the solid four-on-the-floor of the kick drum was absolutely electric. Any thought of not moving one's body to a tight groove of such intense excitement was swiftly gone. `Dum! dum! daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah?' said the phased horn sound of a Yamaha C.S.80 synthesiser. The rhythm section continued its merciless flight from inertia. `Dum! dum! daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah?'

A massive mollusc for #FossilFriday Bourgetia is a 160 million year old gastropod from the tropical seas of the Yorkshire Jurassic. The grid on my desk is 50mm. There's a good article about these and other upper Jurassic snails here: fossilsinthills.weebly.com/blogs/the-tw... ⚒️🌍🐚🐌🔬🧪
