Canadian. Retired. A Cautionary Tale. I support #WalkableCommunities #Environment #Libraries #ThriftShops I am a kind person but I block charity spam.
I have joined neighbourhood gardeners experiencing an invasion of Japanese beetles destroying some plants. Their shells are a lovely shimmery blue-green. They are eating my Scarlet runner bean leaves and buds. It's a good thing this is just an outdoors hobby. 🫛🥺 #Gardening #Beetles #Plants
We had a visitor this evening. I tried to distract him with an offering of green beans from our porch vine/ stalk? Grabbed one, sniffed it then dropped it with a clunk. Then he headed up our porch steps toward my Ottawa tomato plant. I chased him away. It was the funniest drama all day. 🍅 🫛 🐿️
Half-way through summer and my garden harvest is unimpressive. Grey squirrels enjoyed 2 ripe Ottawa tomatoes they ripped from the porch planter, dropping a half-eaten one. I remind myself that I do this as therapy, feeling satisfied while nurturing, watching things grow. 🌱🏡 #gardening #squirrels
I got out and about early for walkies and groceries under the hazy sky and eerie orange sun rising. There was a whiff of smoke and a pleasant breeze to accompany me home, planning not to venture out until 4 p.m. Hoping for rain but not too much, eh? 🌞☔🌱🤗 www.theweathernetwork.com/en/news/weat...
Another day, another power outage in West Ottawa. This time at 7:30 a.m. on Monday when Civil Servants are mandated back to the office. Return ETA for hydro is 10 a.m. On a happy note, the neighbour's Cat dropped by to supervise gardening tasks . #Hydro #Cats #Gardens #Summertime
I went out in the afternoon heat to inspect the garden and hydrate the soil under the plants. Also watered the neighbour's cat. She enjoys the quiet shade, being safe from the shrieking children nearby. #Cats #Gardening #Summer My day is complete 🤗🐆🌞🍉
Glad I got out in the heat for 5 hours, for High Tea with a downtown friend. Delightful experience with cultured folks. #LaurierHouse #HighTea #Ottawa #Summertime #Heatwave #CanadianHistory #bougie Public transportation service was agreeable. It was so nice to get home, strip down and kick back.
It was a hot 17 minute walk through the farm this morning then on to other stops for errands 🍉🥚🍅. It was a good and sweaty 2 hour excursion. So glad to have mutual motivation to keep moving the body. Also, we need stuff. The new #walking shoes are serving me well. Just keep swimming swimming... 🐟
The neighbour's cat dropped by for a visit, mainly to recline in the shade. 🌞 My day is complete. 🌱🐆🤗 #Caturday #Pets #Cats #Gardening
I saw many blooms during this morning's visit to the garden. The one that impressed me most was this little flower growing from the patio stone crack under the compost drum. It looks like a petunia. Can anyone confirm? #Bloomscrolling #Gardening #Survival #Determination #Flowers
The neighbour's cat dropped by for a visit while I was watering the plants this morning. She is learning the concept of play that doesn't involve dominating the opponent. #Gardening #Bloomscrolling #Cats #Community
When you decide to take a 2 hour morning walk before breakfast, you can end up anywhere in your community. It was encouraging to see a handful of people waiting for the library doors to open. I passed time by following the StoryWalk posters about Colette the Solitary Bee. Cute 🐝 #Libraries #walking
What kind of person visits yards during a community-wide garage sale and only brings home plants? 🏡🌱🌞😅
I had a short, enjoyable volunteer shift at the local library branch today. I like chatting with the paid workers. #Libraries #Books #Reading #Ottawa #Nepean #Community #Walking
Meowing into the void. My #Caturday contribution is from yesterday's brief visit to the garden in the afternoon heat. I checked on the plants and watered the neighbour's Cat. #Gardening #Cats #Heatwave
My Friday morning walking buddy and I kept our route short, mainly to pick up groceries and return home, retreating from the heat. Surely the gardeners are happy with the recent rainfall but the peony bushes collapsed due to the weight of their buxom blossoms. #Bloomscrolling #Walking #Community
I had an informed visit to the Library and Archives Canada building for #DoorsOpenOttawa this morning. Many volunteer guides and Friends bookshop folks answered questions. They had displays and virtual tours of the Adisoke building coming in 2027. Lots of people were downtown despite ominous clouds.
I Paparazzi'd the privacy of a Hoya houseplant as she/it? hid delicate flowers beneath the indoors foliage. It has been years since any cousins and offshoots produced a cluster of pretty pink stars. #Bloomscrolling #Plants #SmallJoys en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoya_ca...
I spent the morning playing in the dirt, transplanting bean, tomato and zucchini sprouts, lovingly placed in an elevated Lee Valley Vegepod.🌱 Also watered the neighbour's cat 🐆 I think she enjoys the quiet of our yard compared to the joyful pandemonium at home. 😸 #gardening #Caturday #PlantTherapy
My friend and I enjoyed Sunday morning walkies under sunny blue skies. I was enchanted by the burst of dandelions on people's lawns. #Bloomscrolling Once home, I closed the blinds and turned on the air conditioners. 🤗Thankful for the gentle, cool spring, I am ready for #summer gardening and heat.
Out and aboot with a friend today to see the tulips and visit favourite trees in the Arboretum. There were so many tourists at Dow's lake, surrounded by construction and traffic noise. #Bloomscrolling #TulipFestival #Walking #Ottawa It was good to get outside, better to be home with feet up now 🤗
It was a slow start on this dull, rainy, cool Wednesday, finally getting out and aboot for walkies and a volunteer shift. It was refreshing. The birds were my cheering section 🐦🎶. #Bloomscrolling #Spring #Rain #Community #Walking ☔🌷👟
Mother's Day brunch achieved. I feel appreciated 🌷🤗 #MothersDay
It was a full house for an evening with Fran Lebowitz at the NAC. Enjoyable. Favourite quote: (reading) a book should not be like a mirror; it should be a door. nac-cna.ca/en/event/39972 The @octranspo.com public transit trip home was timely, comfortable and dry, until my final dash in the rain.
Gave blood today. The folks at CBS (Canadian Blood Services) are professional and attentive. Afterwards, tallest son accompanied me for lunch then Canadian Tire "hopeful gardening retail therapy". At least I can nurture living things in my tiny, sane corner of the world. Neighbour's cat dropped by.
I got out and aboot today, for errands, movement, and civil human interaction. It's still nippy but refreshing and hopeful to see the trees in early bud activity.
