I follow with abandon academics, writers, artists, and others who make the world more intelligible and enjoyable, but I also likes me some silly stupid posts. As one other poster here has said, my apologies in advance for the dichotomy.
Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned. I wore Crocs on a hiking trail.
Tonight's bit of culture: Beethoven's Seventh with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Marin Alsop, along with selections from Wynton Marsalis' jazzy Fourth Symphony. (...And yet Beethoven's Pastorale Symphony has been what's running through my mind today.)
At the opening concert of the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society's annual festival, with Ana Vidovic performing. She is starting the concert off on a very lighthearted note with Segovia's transcription of Bach's Chaconne from the Violin Partita No. 2.
Really gotta put the brakes on these middle-of-the-night impulse purchases. On the other hand: First trip to Spain, baby!
Quin Friary in County Clare, Ireland. Visited last October on a cold and rainy morning right before I flew home, just to fill time, but was awed by the history of the site and its tranquil beauty. This is one of my favorite pictures from that trip.
Yet another front row seat to a Philadelphia Orchestra concert tonight. Mahler's "Resurrection" Symphony was on the program; the orchestra, chorus, soloists, and conductor all blew the doors off the hall. Immediate standing ovation of at least ten minutes after the final note!
Wonder if these two are married to each other? Darn lucky dog if so.
I think this is the first time I've had an actual front row seat at a Philadelphia Orchestra concert. Here for "Pictures at an Exhibition".
Christmas breakfast this year. Alas, the blueberry compote was a bit runny and not all bacon attained the ideal level of crispness. May all our bacon be crispy and our compotes more viscous for 2026!
I see chilaquiles often mentioned as a great breakfast cure for hangovers. I don't drink hard enough to need them for that, but I am grateful to Mexican cuisine to accommodate me with that remedy if I ever do.
When the kid has a better dinner date, Dad cooks for himself. Sadly, the steak was overdone (medium well) vs the target medium rare; this Dad still needs to learn a thing or two over an unforgiving charcoal grill.
Had not planned on shaping my destiny this summer, but who am I to challenge a fortune cookie?
