"If the NBA's richest owner can apparently secretly funnel $50 million to his best player above and beyond his NBA salary, get caught and get away with it without real sanction, there is no reason for any other rich owner to follow the rules. And where does that leave us?

Well, then the NBA has a strict salary cap on paper that regulates player salary and team cap structures and actually doesn't exist in reality. In reality, under the surface, it will have well-resourced teams funneling extra money to key players to sign with those teams, or take below-market deals, or execute this or that option. It will be a league that pats itself on the back for competitive balance and parity while hiding the real league, where the richest owners find creative ways to pay players under the table through pass-through fake endorsement deals or investments. Every contract and signing, especially those below what is perceived as market value, will carry a shroud of suspicion.

Maybe that's already the league we have, and the veil of legitimacy is just being peeled back for a peek into the underbelly because Ballmer was dumb enough to run his scam through a company that was itself an enormous scam. Whether that's the case, or if Ballmer is outlier, if he is not made an example here, it is open season on cap circumvention, which means that for all intents and purposes, the salary cap is fake, just like the trees that Aspiration said it was going to plant."

lots of folks have been complaining about not knowing where to find games. it's not *that* hard. the better complaint: the 2nd half of NYK-PHI and the 1st half of SAS-MIN are probably going to overlap completely tonight because NBC wants its game fully within primetime. unacceptable!

A lot of folks have been complaining about being confused as to where games are being broadcast this postseason. I don't know; I don't find it that hard. It's not like trying to figure out which streaming service has a given film at any given time, right? Tonight's set-up is pretty easy, for example: if you have cable or a cable-like streaming bundle, you can watch the first game on NBC and the second on NBC Sports Network. Most cable packages and cable-like streaming bundles come with NBC and NBC Sports Network. If you have Peacock, you can watch both games there. Problem solved.

The real problem, maybe an unforgivable one, is that the games will overlap by an entire half of basketball! There are only 1-2 games per day going forward, and so there should be no excuse for them not to be spaced enough so that you only miss part of the "late" game if the "early" game runs long. And yet: the "early" game on Monday starts at 8 PM Eastern and the "late" game starts at 9:30 PM Eastern. So the second half of the early game is likely to overlap completely with the first half of the late game. They are doing this so that NBC can show the Knicks-Sixers game in primetime and they don't want to start a playoff game after 9 PM local time in San Antonio. I get that. But it's terrible! Start that damn Eastern Conference game at 7 PM local time so both games can stand alone!

I actually still don't believe this really happened.

"The tick-tock of this first half is pretty wild. The Hawks were actually up 11-9 four minutes in. The Knicks went on a 14-0 run. Atlanta scored a bucket, and New York went on a 9-0 run.
