Sometimes, it is just really fun to go downhill as fast as possible on skinny skis. Today’s tuck’n go skiing on the Olympic trails was something else. Another tip of the tuque to great trail crew at Van Ho - nice line!
“Drink specials” at 8 a.m. - Lake Placid knows hockey. The US last won the gold medal in Lake Placid in 1980. The 1980 team beat the Russians on this day in 1980 in the semifinals for the famous, “Miracle on Ice.” The US team went on to beat the Finns for the gold medal.
Thanks to the best snowpack in years, backcountry skiing in the High Peaks Wilderness Area in the Adirondack Mountains is delightful. Yesterday was simply epic. This is what we train for.

Here’s one that hunts in my yard - the resident biologist said it is a lot easier for them to hunt when there is more soft, fluffy snow under which the small mammals run around. I couldn’t upload a still of the same fox hunting in the ice, but he was not having fun or success.
Look! A predator! The good kind. Hunting is tough for our neighborhood fox right now; rain on snow, and then cold made a nice crust for the small mammals to hide under. #wildlife
A tip of the tuque to the NY State employees tasked with grooming these beautiful cross-country ski trails near Lake Placid, NY. Time in nature stabilizes and steadies human systems and I certainly appreciate it, especially now.

I heard about a certain twitchy tech titan who claims to be a cross-country skier. Based on the interview I saw, he’s not skiing nearly enough. I bet a couple hours on my backyard Olympic trails would take it out of him. #nordicskiersarechill
