A billionaire just announced AI will shrink the influence of educated women. And framed it as progress. 🤯
Palantir CEO Alex Karp said in a CNBC interview this week that AI will deliberately undermine the influence of "highly educated, often female voters" + anyone who doesn't see that belongs in an "insane asylum."
I've listened to this statement several times. And each time, it becomes clearer to me why the work in AI Safety matters so much.
Because two things are happening at the same time right now:
➡️ Studies already show that women will be disproportionately affected by AI automation, especially in administrative, communicative, + coordinating roles that have traditionally been female-dominated. That's the research consensus. And Karp knows it. But instead of treating this as a problem to solve, he frames it as progress, as if this is simply what AI does, rather than what some people are actively choosing to build
➡️ And that's exactly where the rhetoric becomes dangerous. When a CEO publicly says that educated women should lose power through AI and calls it progress, that's not just a statement about technology. That's a political vision of who AI is being built for. Because AI doesn't just happen to us. It amplifies the values and priorities of those who build it and right now, some of those people are being very open about what they want it to do
🚨 This is what AI Safety is really about. Not just preventing robots from going rogue, but ensuring that the most powerful technology ever built doesn't become a tool for concentrating power in the hands of a few. That means asking hard questions about who builds AI, whose values it reflects, + who gets left behind
➡️ The fact that educated women are being targeted so deliberately here is no coincidence
➡️ So yes, this should motivate all of us to speak up louder. Because Alex Karp isn't even saying it between the lines anymore, he's saying it straight out loud
And he's saying it like it's a done deal.
It's not.

Threads post by adamparkhomenko: Trump is scared out of his mind that Republicans are going to lose the House in the midterms, if not sooner given how fast things are unraveling, which is why he's accelerating his authoritarian and fascist plans at a pace we've never seen before. This isn't confidence, it's panic. When power starts slipping, they don't moderate, they rush to break the system before voters can stop them, and every single day this is starting to look a whole lot more like Russia, and we know how voting goes there.
