Despite leaving with plenty of time to get there, somehow Hongjoong was the last to arrive. He didn’t know how that always seemed to happen to him. It meant that his friends were already set up in one of the smaller rooms, soju on the table and Yunho already scrolling through the song options.

“Have something to drink, hyung,” Mingi said.

Hongjoong grabbed one of the bottles nearest him and opened it. He just took a sip, trying to pace himself, but it was enough mollify Mingi. Yunho had finished making his selection. Hongjoong glanced up at the screen, but he didn’t recognize the name of the artist. He wasn’t even sure if it was a group or a solo artist - he didn’t keep up with popular music very well.

Wooyoung toyed with his glass, not making eye contact with Mingi. Mingi hadn't thought that asking him about his actor was a difficult question, especially when the last time they talked about it, Wooyoung had hinted that he might end it.
"It's - I don't know," Wooyoung said finally. "It's complicated."
"So you're still seeing him."
Wooyoung shrugged. "Sometimes. When we can."
Mingi sighed. "Will you just spill already? He's cute, I know you like him, but every time we talk about him,
you get upset."
"I think he's seeing other people."

The bell over the door rang. Unusual, for a mid-afternoon, and doubly so since it was the first snowfall of early winter, when most people preferred to stay in. He did his best business in the morning and evening, with hardly ever a customer in the middle of the day (which was why he was spending it contemplating Jongho’s latest mathematical missive).

Hongjoong looked up, half-expecting it to be some sort of accident, someone in need of directions for the establishment they were actually trying to visit. Whoever this man was, though, he looked like he was thinking about staying, kicking snow off his shoes and brushing it off his hat and the shoulders of his coat.

When the man finished taking off his scarf, Hongjoong nearly choked on his tongue. He might be the most beautiful man that Hongjoong had ever seen: not the artificial prettiness of an idol or an actor, molded into some preordained shape, but something stronger, less artificial, with the shape of his bones and the fullness of his lips giving him character.

“Hi,” the man said, sounding almost shy.

“Hi,” Hongjoong said. He swallowed hard. “Welcome. If you have any questions, just let me know.”

The man stepped up to the glass case where the last of the pastries were and studied them intently, like it was a choice the world was going to hang on.

He tells all this to the scheduler, who promises to get it done. Some clients like to talk to Seonghwa themselves for this part - they like to be reminded that they have the power and the money and they're paying for it. He doesn't think Hongjoong is one of those, though, not with the way he's looking for easy and familiar. Better to have a third-party handle the negotiation and send the invoices on a regular basis.
Hongjoong has to do is text Seonghwa to let him know when to show up, no bald exchange of money needed.
Hongjoong texts him on the number he uses for clients, barely a few hours later.
/are you free Thursday night? Maybe as soon as 7, but I might not be home until late/
Seonghwa checks his schedule. He is.
/My assistant is going to send you the details about my building later, come over any time on thursday/

By 'come over any time, Seonghwa assumes that Hongjoong means 'whenever you need to in order to be waiting when I get home.'
That's his fantasy, after all: that Seonghwa is his long-term partner. Someone living in. He wonders if Hongjoong knows that that deeply domestic desire is what he's asked for. He suspects he doesn't.

Hongjoong gestures in equivocation. "Some.
Did you have a nice time?"
"Yeah."
Seonghwa has a dreamy smile, like he's remembering the rest of his evening fondly.
Hongjoong suddenly can't stand it. He takes one step across the floor and grabs the back of Seonghwa's neck, pulling him down so he can kiss him, hard.
Seonghwa gasps. Hongjoong sweeps his tongue into his mouth, pushing it into every cranny like he's searching for clues. This close to Seonghwa, he can smell cologne clinging to him, something fruitier than he usually wears.
He doesn't ask who Seonghwa went out with.
He trusts Seonghwa. That's not the point of this.

"Yunho-ssi, do you have any opinion on which of these projects you'd like to work on?" [agent?] at the front of the room asked.
The room had already heard about the credentials of the directors for the three proposed projects, the likely viewing figures given the various networks and distributors, and assessments of any other cast already signed on. Not to mention, of course, the potential for tie-in merchandising or other promotional options.
All those options having been considered, they were now ready to hear Yunho's opinion.
"I think the overseas setting of the first would be really fresh and allow me to show a different side of myself," he said. "And of course, [director], on the second, has done so much great work and l'd love to work with her." He paused. "But, I was wondering - these roles all seem so similar to what I've been doing. Before, we said - anyway, I was wondering if there was any possibility of doing something a little different. A villain, maybe, or an antihero."
No one around the table wanted to make eye contact.

"Yunho-ssi," [agent] finally said. "We've talked about this. I know you want to do other kinds of work, but right now the market really wants to see you in romances.
That's the image you've built, and that's the image that our promotional partners are really looking for. We need to be able to take advantage of that while we can. It won't last forever, and it would be a shame to waste."
The promotional partners. Of course. Yunho knew that was where the bulk of his income came from, and obviously that would matter to his agency.
He couldn't even say they were wrong. He was successful now, but he knew that never lasted. Sooner or later, someone else would be the hot young thing, and then he'd be grateful to be offered any choices in roles at all.
"Then the first one would be my preference, but any of these would be great," he said, appropriately chastened. He'd let the rest of the team pick, driven by the mundane business of schedule and contract negotiation.

He found the room easily and knocked. It was opened almost immediately to reveal Yunho, so it hadn’t been an elaborate prank after all.

He opened the door wider when he saw it was Mingi, gestured him in. He was wearing a robe, tied loosely around the waist and showing off a lot of chest. His hair was done, and Mingi thought there was subtle makeup around his eyes, like he had been working today and hadn’t washed up yet.

As soon as the door was closed, Yunho stripped off the robe. He was totally naked underneath, his dick heavy between his legs like he had been thinking about this. Mingi nearly tripped over the shoes he was in the middle of taking off.

Yunho didn’t bother waiting for him. He disappeared into the rest of the hotel room, and Mingi hurried to follow him, stripping off his shirt as he went.

Yunho was sprawled face down on the bed, legs spread, with a box of condoms and new bottle of lube on the bedspread next to him. His head was pillowed on his arms, face tilted just enough that he could watch Mingi. It should have looked submissive, but it wasn’t. He looked like he was waiting to be served.

“You and [costar] are going to present an award together at Gayo,” Yunho’s manager told him, twisting around from the front seat of the car. “There’s a short skit first. You’ll flirt a bit, nothing more than you’ve already filmed with her. We have rehearsal today to run through the blocking. [costar]’s people offered more time with her in case you wanted to run the skit more than once, but I told them you didn’t need it.”

Yunho nodded from the back, where he had the seat reclined as far as it would go and a blanket stretched out over his legs. He was too tall to really be able to stretch out, but this way he could pretend.

“Did [costar] think it was enough?”

His manager shrugged. “You don’t have time anyway. We’re going to Japan tomorrow, and then you have that ad shoot when you get back. Gayo’s the day after that.”

Yunho nodded again. He would have liked to have more time to rehearse than that, especially if [costar] wanted it - and form working with her on three projects, he suspected she did - but [manager] was right: he didn’t have time.

And it was just a skit at Gayo. No one expected it to be top-tier work, he told himself, trying not to let his mouth twist.
