The knocking continued every day that followed, but it wasn't until the 50th day before anyone found the nerve to investigate. As Daniel opened the basement door, the sound became deafening. The knocking seemed to swallow his senses, or at least his common, as he stepped into the dark, wading through the stagnant flood water, to never be seen again.
By the sixtieth day the rain stopped, but the knocking found a new rhythm.

The proof copy for my next book, Familiar Territory, has arrived! It's been a little while since I've had a solo release, so I am absolutely ready to dive into this for the final edits, ready for its September release!

Okay I got a little carried away yet again... #HorrorWritersChat

It’s amazing how alert your body can be with a cannula in your arm. Every droop of the eyes and sag of the head is pricked right back with the not-so-gentle reminder of the needle nuzzling your thickest vein. I want to sleep, I want to give in, to drift off to Neverland. But my arm has different ideas. And so we compromise and I live in A&E, imprisoned in this moment. But I’m so very, very tired.
The consent form that rests on my lap nothing but a blur, my signature little more than a legally-binding leak of ink in the right spot. My vision quivers between synthetic lights and darkness. The last thing I hear is the whisper of "..minor side effects"

I was a huge fan of Shadows of Cathedral Lane by the late (but ever wonderful) MG Mason. The main character goes on a journey of discovering her demisexuality whilst exploring a murder mystery where the victim was a ghost (as is so often the case in this town!)

What keeps you writing, when all feels lost? For me, I have this frame to keep me going. That drive to at least complete it, so even if my work never truly takes off, I can look back & be proud of my body of work.

Truth be told, I often thought of getting rid of the mirror. But superstition kept it nailed to the wall. To remove the mirror was to offer reality to the monster whose eyes I dared not meet. The misery that shadowed these eyes. And so it hung proudly in the hall, watching every day that I hurried by, waiting for the day that I faced the inevitable.
