The Green Runners
@thegreenrunners
We are running out of time. We are a community of runners making changes for a greener future.
2/3 They discuss defeating oil giants in court, navigating whitewater skills into climate action, and carrying a cloth salmon called Samantha 43 miles up the River Exe. The Salmon Run shows how we move together to take positive action for nature. @tidelines.bsky.social @sarahfinch.bsky.social

If you see a runner wearing one of our patches, say hello and ask them what being a Green Runner means to them.
2/3 - Our group ran parkrun at their own pace, although Kev was enjoying a chatty run with Tracey when he noticed she kept slowly increasing the pace and the chatter became communication using single words only. 🤣
1/3 - Colwick Country Park was the venue for our Nottingham local meet-up this month. Sadly, our group found an abundance of litter on their post parkrun litter pick. It's frustrating that people can't enjoy beautiful green spaces without littering. 🌿 #TrashFreeTrails
1/2 - Last month we held our inaugural Gathering in Derbyshire. Following the event, we’ve been delighted to hear from people about actions they have taken. Earlier this week we shared news of action that Paul has taken at the Reaction event. #HowWeSpeakOut #HowWeMove Read on for Lizzie’s update 👇🏻
2/2 More from Paul “I provided free shoe repairs & chatted to a few people who'd just bought kits but not done any repairs. There lots of people wanting to make outdoor pursuits sustainable & it's great to be around them.” Every discussion, every demonstration is a ripple of change. 🙏🏻 Paul
1/2 Love 💚 this action from Green Runner Paul. “Last weekend I went to the Reaction event. Lots of donated pre-loved kit sold to make money for local charities, with free kit repairs & people promoting DIY repairs.” @trainerdrainer.bsky.social @pair-ups.bsky.social #ReactionCollective
3/3 You might not look as fursome as Bert, but you’ll look proud! Grab yours via our link. How are you styling your badge on your kit? Share using the hashtag #badgebimbles #TheGreenRunners #SustainableRunning
1/3 Ever wondered why TGR does not sell club vests or tote bags Members ask for kit, and brands offer merch deals, but we say no. Our #HowWeKitUp pillar is about being mindful of what we buy. Creating brand-new merchandise just to add a logo completely conflicts with our environmental mission.
Join us for our monthly Nottingham Local Meet Up. Runners welcome, walkers welcome! 💚 to see you there ⏰️ 18 July 08:45 📍 Colwick parkrun 🤝 Meet outside Wired Café. 🚆 Sustainable travel options in alt-text 🟢 Look for Kev & his badges. Post run we plan to litter pick 🗑 followed by refreshments ☕️
1/3 Running can be a powerful act of solidarity for our planet. The Salmon Run returns on 19 Sep, inviting us to move for endangered Atlantic salmon. This 43-mile ultra & team relay tracks the exact upriver journey these fish take to spawn. #Running #HowWeMove #SalmonRun @tidelines.bsky.social
West Sussex & East Hampshire members: your 1st Local Meet Up is here! ⏰️ 11 July 08:45 📍 Chichester parkrun 🤝 Meet outside The Café on the Park at Chichester Festival Theatre 🟢 Look for Lisa to find the group. Post parkrun, we’ll catch up at the finish line café. Sign up info in alt-text
1/2 Adharanand talks about his environmental journalism roots & the chaotic joy of moving his family to Iten. It's a warm, funny, and deeply insightful conversation about how endurance running can completely transform your perspective on life and nature. Listen on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
1/2 - Our Nottingham members were still buzzing from our recent 'Gathering' as they assembled at Gedling Country Park for our local meet-up 🌿 Su, Caren & Jon were at The Gathering last weekend & brim full of nostalgic tales from a brilliant weekend. It's fair to say they really enjoyed themselves 💚
Join us for our monthly London Local Meet Up. Runners welcome, walkers welcome! ⏰️ 20 June 08:40 📍 Greenwich Peninsula parkrun 🤝 Meet Tide Square what3words: ///shower.bunch.punch 🚆 Sustainable travel options in alt-text 🟢 Look for Ben to find the group. Post run litter pick & coffee ☕️
The Gathering - photos from Sunday’s 25km trail run. The gang took a loop out to Matlock via poppy fields and trig points. #TrailRunning
The Gathering - every gathering needs food. And boy did we eat well. Big shout out to Dan for organising the menus, sourcing the ingredients and marshalling the kitchen gang. Every meal was plant-based, playing a significant role in keeping our CO2e emissions down. #HowWeFuel #EatWellBeHappy
We had a wonderful weekend at the @mountcookadventure.bsky.social centre. Ideally positioned for our members to reach by train from many corners of the country. The centre is also well served by solar panels, heat pumps & a modern efficient build. #LowCarbonAdventures
The Gathering - How Green Runners travel. Waiting for the train home, tired & happy. #HowWeMove
The Gathering have released their first album “Run Like There’s No Planet B”
3/3 The Gathering - And with that it’s over. Thank you to all the volunteers that made the weekend happen with special thanks to Nina & Dan for the planning & organisation. And thank you to everyone who attended, for throwing themselves into a weekend of Green Running 💚🌍💚 Hearts full, legs tired.
2/3 - Travel & food were the greatest contributors to the weekend’s emissions. Many attendees chose train or car share - positive actions to reduce emissions. While our plant based meals also helped keep the emissions down. Our final session was a brain storm of ideas for what comes next for us.
1/3 - The Gathering - After the morning’s activities it was time to reflect. Andy & Mim addressed the question, how low carbon was our inaugural Gathering? Turns out…pretty low At 31kg CO2e, this compares v well compared to 200-300kg CO2e for a conference. But there’s more we can do.
The Gathering - tonight’s fireside chat focused on mindful running, finding your intrinsic why, how to keep going when the going gets tough, a crazy “sprint” at the Barkleys and the power of having a good chat with yourself. Jasmin Paris, Elis Parry and Jeev Singh kept the conversation flowing.
A gathering at The Gathering. Exchanging views & approaches with like minded organisations is a great way to grow. 🙏🏻 to Mount Cook Adventure Centre, Trails for Good & Hope Valley Climate Group for joining us this today. Lots of food for thought & ideas for possible collaborations.
The Gathering - Darren Evans bringing the sustainable running tips. Brilliant session this afternoon demonstrating how to make homemade electrolytes & energy gels & then how to make running repairs to our daps. Sweet & salty; stitches & glue Tackling two pillars in one session #HowWeFuel #HowWeKit
The Gathering - our group enjoyed a woodland run at Black Rocks parkrun followed by a @ultradamo.bsky.social downhill skillz session & spot of plogging. Top morning.
2/2 The Gathering - Friday night fireside chats @melcoate.bsky.social encouraging us to take #LowCarbonAdventures by finding new ways to look at the world on our doorstep. Tales of running around a 20km x 20km map finding new trails, Firecrests and hidden corners.
