𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝘆𝘁𝗵. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁. The cross was the rude collision of Christian mythology with historical reality. Whatever claims had gathered around Jesus, Rome returned him to ordinary human scale with brutal finality: arrested, degraded, executed, discarded. The claimant died, and no kingdom came. The heavens did not intervene. Sobering history had rendered its verdict.
Yet the cult refused that verdict. It painted over the collision so completely that defeat itself became the supreme divine plan. Betrayal fulfilled sacred oracles. Mockery became coronation. Roman execution became cosmic atonement, death became victory, and the missing body became divine translation. Every feature that should have returned Jesus to mundane existence was reassigned a deeper metaphysical meaning. The cross did not demythologize him; it mythologized an abrupt historical disgrace.
This is why the Gospels are not biographies distorted by embellishment. They are thick cultic mythographies constructed over the obscure ignominy of a Roman prosecution. Whatever crushed zealot may have lain beneath the movement, the narrated Jesus is not an informative reflection of that man. The executed man was the occasion of the gospels, not their object. Rome destroyed the body. The cult defiantly reversed the meaning. This was the core architecture of Christian origins.
