The Movie Rabbit Hole

I'm Jonas from Denmark, making fake pixels for film and TV since 2005. I make "no CGI is really just invisible CGI" videos on YouTube.
For The Odyssey, Matt Damon was created with a puppet instead of relying on CGI
When we have posts like these I honestly don't know what the word means to the public anymore.
Besides carrying our interstellar address, descriptions of our DNA and instructions on how to build a 1970'es record player, Voyager contains this photo to tell aliens what kind of people they are dealing with (there is no joke here, this is an actual photo on Voyager)
The Danish text on an elevator panel to show that it's moving:
Regardless of which Indy movie is best, I have to say Temple of Doom is the best Indy Harrison has given us. His balance between darkness and humor and just getting to know the character better peaked here.
Project Hail Mary used ZERO CGI for the glasses hanging from Ryan Gosling's ears and Sandra Hüller singing Karaoke, opting instead to rely on practical effects
Tars was built as a fantastic on-set puppet. AND, was 100% CGI in shots like this. Things are rarely one technique only. A practical effect on set does not mean "no CGI".
VFX breakdown rules are weird. MI7 pushed “practical” but released CGI breakdowns to get VFX Oscar and got nominated. MI8 had similar CGI but hid it to keep the “practical” angle and got ignored. Predator Badlands released breakdowns, but couldn’t show talent - so Elle Fanning is blurred.
And the most important one! #4: A visionary director collaborating with the VFX team about how to best get the shots (1/2)
#3: Reference -- has always been essential to art, still is
Tired of bad CGI? Let's look at the good stuff! Here are 4 tips from the VFX department about how to make good CGI. #1: Shoot as much as possible for real
Don't jump onto the "wow Hail Mary didn't use a lot of CGI". It's a lovely mix of great practical and CGI, and HALF of Rocky's performance is CGI, and the CGI interiors just used roto and greyscreens instead of greenscreens.
This is what "practical puppet" and "no green screen" means
Andy from Toy Story had his 6th birthday in 1995 which makes him 37 this year.
This must be my bluesky moment of fame so far @manmademoon.bsky.social @tvaziri.com
Popping in Planet of the Apes tonight to see what the hype is about. Looks good.
Yes. I thought on the first viewing on this reel that there were digi doubles in this fight scene (particularly because of the all-digital Fassbender in another scene) but I believe they're only there for interaction with the smoke sim. I'm still not entirely sure. youtu.be/h1P5hum01HE?...
Guys I figured out the Gore Verbinsky nonsense. He just meant it was UNREAL
"One day it will all be over. And everyone will forget that this was the moment. This is when it turned. And it wasn't the democrats, it wasn't the Epste*n files. It was the global support for a little region called Greenland."
These two shots from Leon (1994) were shot simultaneously and the camera and a moving crew arm from angle B is visible in angle A youtu.be/iI5nEIUxz_Q?...
