Wow that was a royal pain in the butt but its finally alive. Power supply needed a lot of work. The I/O card is also totally dead, and i had to borrow another one while I wait for chips to arrive. Lightning I bet.
I need to setup a test environment for the new development, so it's time to drag out and fix the underdog... Rough shape but we can handle it
In better news, the weather star 4000 hardware emulation is going smoothly!
How my day is going.... FSK Subcarrier/IF radios SUCK especially with no schematic or alignment instructions.
Keeping the gravel driveway clear of grass and Moss has been an exercise a futility
PSA: Older LCD TVs and LCD TVs in general cannot be preserved like CRTs can, first known instance ive run into thus far of an LCD TV going Vinegar Syndrome.
It's been 7 years since I've looked at this, but I need to finish the reverse engineering of the data card to get back into a schematic
The Weather STAR 4000's Original ROM vector toolbox is fully working! More and more of the original spirit is being restored everyday as we are getting super close to true STAR 4000 emulation as well! More to come later!
Unfortunately, it appears the PIC Microcontroller is locked. So, copying that for preservation was an exercise in futility
Here is something you don't see everyday. Someone sent this crazy thing in for repair, very odd led sign That's not built well at all
With one laptop out of the way, Time to tinker with the next one. This one was in remarkable condition
Windows is running but I have to make a ram module. 2 MB is not enough
I bought these at a flea market back in 2008, and I'd love to be able to find another set just like it
Yep!! Sure does!! All voltages have now been restored, holy shit I fixed it
Moment of truth. Does the Sharp PC-5700 power supply run with the new TL494 installed on the depotted hybrid? Let's find out!
Rendered by the Weatherstar 4000's original rendering engine in ROM. I am actually stoked about that, more of the originality has been restored!
As much as I do not like AI at all, it can be a useful tool if used correctly. It has worked out a functional example of the Weather STAR 4000's original rendering code in ROM using Easy68K!
IC has finally been de-potted. Time for reverse engineering! Yea, I have officially gone off the deep-end for this one. I just find this shit fun
Any of you connector aficionados out there, any clue what this is and what its mate is? It's almost the thickness of the PCB itself
Picked up this really nice Sony watchman recently, this one is a little bit unusual because the CRT design is different. It's not curved
