My local Tesco Express, today. Every chiller switched off, a sign apologising because "the heat's got to this chiller." UK supermarket fridges have failed in the heatwaves this year. We keep treating each one as a freak event. It isn't. This is what missing #climate adaptation looks like.

I don't think we should regard 'Science' as a monolith. Its many different fields and communities. Those who reject certain fields of science because the findings in that field challenges part of their cultural identity. They don't tend to reject all science cogsci.northwestern.edu/events/2017-...

6/ It's also I believe a mistake on Henderson's part to focus on locating social polarisation in the actions of scientists standing up for the integrity of their work. Instead of the huge disinformation campaign that has for decade's been seeking to sow doubt & undermine trust in climate science
2/ Yes, our actions were motivated by underlying values, predominantly the desire to protect human life and defend human rights - values that are widespread throughout society, across political divisions. This value also motivates much of climate research.
As someone in this picture I find it a little odd that @natureportfolio.nature.com chose this image to illustrate the point. We were very careful when choosing a slogan for our signs that it be scientificly defenceable. "Science says New Oil & Gas = Death" is a plain statement of fact 🧵
