Oh hey, my sock-in-progress fits this week's #ShowMeYourKnits theme, as it uses self-striping yarn. Did a progress check this morning, the sock grows apace!
Learning to knit socks from the toe up! Used increase instructions for a pattern I'm not gonna follow. (The pillow is cute but not mine.)
My mother in law kindly gifted me a bag of goodies from The Woolly Thistle! I no longer have an excuse to not start up some socks lol. The eternal question is which pattern to knit next?
I didn't have time to take a good photo of the shawl so here's a quick one I did right after the embroidery was done 🧶 my sister was very happy! Now on to planning knitted gift my cousin's winter baby (a boy!)
I've finished knitting the Korpsång shawl! I tried a new to me bind off for kicks: Icelandic bind off. Easy once you get going and looks pretty on the garter stitch. Needs blocking and embroidery but not dealing with that today. It is indeed Nice and Large.
Was thinking I don't have any yellow work for this week's #ShowMeYourKnits but then I remembered the yarn for the Sallah cowl I've been working on has splashes of yellow. In the bright sun, it stands out more than the other colors (purple, orange, green).
I don't know who in Manhattan is crocheting these tree... sleeves? Cowls? But I appreciate you.
My latest attempt to make a shawl for my 3rd sister seems to be actually going well! 🤞I chose a pattern (Korpsång) from Laine's 52 Weeks of Shawls. The yarn is Skydance Fibers Nova.
#ShowMeYourKnits lace edition! My Sallah cowl is slowly taking shape.
Finally decided to do something with this beautiful discontinued yarn in my stash. (Khusku, a bamboo/wool/nylon blend) I poked around @knitty.com archives and pulled up the Sallah cowl pattern. Tomorrow I'm back to working my my latest gift knits, but this one's for me!
Savoring one of my favorite xmas gifts: Elizabeth Zimmermann's The Opinionated Knitter. (Yes, that's a swatch-as-bookmark lol). Chock full of fantastic anecdotes and the archive of her knitting newsletters. I read the funny parts out loud to my husband.
#ShowMeYourKnits is knitter's choice, so here's the last gift knit I made: a Sophie Scarf in pretty fawn colored alpaca yarn. Hopefully my sister likes it. It only took a few days!
They need to be blocked but the mittens are technically done! I used leftover yarn from the Briodag set but I still have a good amount of this yarn left... so much for knitting through my stash this year. 🧶 It was probably not a realistic goal to begin with. 😆
Good news: I finished knitting the Briodag set and all pieces are ready by October as planned. Of course, it was 80 degrees today and will be again this weekend. Autumn has to arrive at some point but I am not sure when!
Finally got out during weather cool enough yet still sunny enough to get a photo of my finished Briodag beret by Alice Starmore. It is unsurprisingly very warm. I'm happy to see that the pattern shows up in the orchid/violet part of the hat. Not bad for my very first stranded colorwork project!
Briodag fingerless gloves are making good progress! Keeping track of multiple charts is Not Fun with my attention span but I am muddling through it. The pattern is pretty rewarding to watch develop as you knit.
Current knitting WIP progress: a beret is forming! I am actually another few rows past this already but figure I will take another photo before switching to the 2nd background color. 🧶 Pattern & yarn from virtualyarns.com- Briodag using colors Orchid, Driftwood, and Erica #knitsky
Since we're doing shawls on #ShowMeYourKnits- here's a better photo of my Damascena shawl. I really do grab this every time I'm cold (from air conditioning, it's been super hot here all summer). It's so comfy and pretty!
I'm now working on Alice Starmore's Briodag kit, and have just completed the scarf! A little nervous about starting the proper colorwork. Very much not the season for posing with scarves, even in air conditioning, phew.
Trying to get a photo of my Damascena shawl laid out was tough given the size, but it wears so nicely! Worth all the time and effort.
Apparently there's a guy selling his crocheted roses in the city, and my lovely husband bought one for me on sight. So cute!
Still working on the Damascena shawl, though on to the fun border. It'll probably take me a month to get through at my current pace, so I am likely gonna cast on a simpler side project soon. Maybe I'll knit some mitts in anticipation of spring...
Lace is the theme for #ShowMeYourKnits but for once I am not actively knitting lace. So I present a throwback to my wedding shawl/wrap, one of the first things I designed myself using a stitch dictionary and some Malabrigo Silky Merino yarn. I did not know how to knit triangles yet lol.
For this week's Valentine's themed #ShowMeYourKnits I am still really proud of this red cowl/hood I came up with to solve my "it's cold out but I dont wanna crush my curls today" problem. Seamless with short row shaping. Uses White Gum Wool bouclé yarn, which is incredibly soft and cozy. 🧶
Got to play with my xmas gift from my husband recently. I have no idea what I'm doing, it's great! Weaving is nice distraction from the chaos that will hopefully result in a coaster.
#ShowMeYourKnits I knitted my first sweater 4 years ago! Pattern is Ya'ar by Chai Crafts. I stopped short for a cropped fit. The yarn is a discontinued 50/50 merino/yak blend. I still wear and love this one, so light and warm.
Currently working on the Damascena shawl from Short-Row Colorwork Knitting. (Excellent book btw!) Colorwork is the main skill I wish to improve on in 2025. My color choices are arguably too low contrast, but I still like them. Yarn is Malabrigo sock in Eggplant and Tiziano Red.
#ShowMeYourKnits I think my favorite knit this year is a tie, my swatch hat that accidentally fit is great, but I am also really pleased with this violet hat I just made for my mother in law. I thought, "this yarn will look nice in this stitch pattern" and was right!
Just got this used book in the mail! I bought it for the Aran sweater on the cover but I love the 90s -ness of all the patterns/photos. My Gen X husband secretly misses the oversized sweater silhouette so I told him to flip through and post-it what he likes 😆
