Rice ranked sixth among the hitters in terms of the largest improvement. He was projected for a 128 wRC+ entering this season, but his rest-of-season wRC+ has already jumped to 137. The in-season model is simpler than the full ZiPS model (otherwise it couldn’t run every day), and with StatCast data included, ZiPS now sees Rice as a 143-wRC+ hitter the rest of the way. That’s the seventh-best rest-of-season wRC+ projection in ZiPS.

I posted this on Facebook just now in the hopes that someone who didn't already agree with me might see it, but I guess I might as well put it on here too. Might be silly to think it's worth saying, but I'm... not getting very much less upset as time has passed.

None of this started with Gregory Bovino and Kristi Noem, and it absolutely cannot be resolved with just those two being fired, even if that does seem like a good place to start. Every day that Stephen Miller has any sort of authority is another day too many. Every day JD Vance is vice president is another chance for him to worm his way into another loathsome calculated position engineered to cause maximum division. Every day Donald Trump is president is another opportunity for whoever he talked to most recently to insert another bad idea into the space his brain used to be before it leaked out his ears. ICE must be abolished, officers who acted in blatant disregard for the law must be prosecuted and held responsible, and anything less than impeachment is yet another bandaid on a bullet wound.

Trying to remember if I've ever seen a graph quite like this for something representing a full season (from @fangraphs.com). The closest thing I can think of is single-game WPA odds, but there are so many games played that you expect there to be some weird ones in there.

2025 AL Central Playoff Odds graphing each team's probability of winning the division. Detroit goes above 50% odds before the end of April, and is solidly in the 95% to 100% range by July. All the other teams are consistently below 25% throughout most of the season. And then, right at the end (between September 16 and today, September 25), Detroit plummets down to their current 19%, and Cleveland rockets up to 81%.
