Zooming in on a daylily reminds me that complexity often hides in plain sight. Sometimes the most interesting patterns only appear when we look a little closer. #photography
Sometimes the best photos aren’t about finding the perfect flower. They’re about noticing the conversation happening between two of them. #photography
This flower clearly skipped the “less is more” design meeting… and I’m all for it. 💜💛 #photography
Fireworks may last a few seconds. Mathematical patterns last forever. I traded fireworks for curve stitching. Different kind of spark...same sense of wonder. 🇺🇸✨ Happy 4th of July weekend. #MathArt
Zoom in and you see circles. Zoom out and you see a cardioid. Mathematics often rewards changing your point of view. #MathArt
One algorithm. Infinitely many possibilities. Today's waiting room became a playground for curve stitching. Same program. Different parameters. Endless exploration.
Hoping this keeps the watermelon from turning every curve into an adventure and a melon-dramatic situation.
May the force of matrix multiplication be with you. Rotate Yoda with matrix multiplication in Matlab, Mathematica or Maple. I need to prep it in Python! :-) academics.davidson.edu/math/chartie... #MayTheFourth
Marvelous Mathemagic with Art Benjamin at @momath.bsky.social on Pi Day. A bit irrational but I wish the show had gone on forever.
Art Benjamin performs at @momath.bsky.social on Pi Day. Look at the length of the performances.
At @momath.bsky.social may wonders exist at one exhibit. This is all at the same one.
The new @momath.bsky.social is entirely stunning. It’s a living celebration of curiosity, creativity, and the joy of discovering math in motion. Everywhere you turn invites a new way to play with an idea.
Was watching the Game of Thrones spin-off and saw mathematical designs. Decided to try one. This isn't what I saw but what I made AFTER I made what I saw!
Went out to eat, saw a pattern on a tapestry, took a picture, and came home and replicated it in python! Gracious!
PEMDAS isn’t about memorizing an order—it’s about avoiding chaos. Bob the Counting Sheep gets a visual explanation (with a little help) of why order matters in math. More sketches at Math Figures: www.youtube.com/@mathfigures... #iTeachMath #MathEducation
What does it mean to get closer and closer and closer to zero without arriving? In mathematics, approaching can matter—even without arriving. More sketches at Math Figures: www.youtube.com/@mathfigures... #iTeachMath #MathEducation #MathArt
Zippy thinks he’s good at math because he’s quick. A second grader shows him where he went wrong. Speed isn’t understanding. Thinking matters. Videos appearing at: www.youtube.com/@mathfigures...
What is a function… and what definitely is not? 🤔 Puppet Dr. C introduces a very pushable example: touch a button → get a predictable result. Math with puppets, clarity, and a little mischief. ▶️ More videos coming soon: youtu.be/yn3hPqJQBs8 #MathEducation #ITeachMath #TeachingWithJoy
I'm in charge of the depart mental display. I have a few slides for "finals". I thought I'd share.
