Answer: Good question from Richard, a fellow long-suffering Philadelphia Union fan. Not because I know the answer, when there are rivals for the title like Donald Trump’s war-losing “Secretary of War” Pete Hegseth, to name just one. But Mullin is now behind a move so outlandish that it showed me I haven’t lost my capacity for shock after all. This weekend, Trump nominated a previously unknown former Oklahoma state trooper named Lance Schroyer to run U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a powerful agency with 22,000 agents and a budget of around $30 billion a year. It turns out that just recently, Schroyer was heading a security detail for Mullin in Washington, D.C., and has become a close enough friend that he is an occasional dinner guest. Yes, he hired his bodyguard to run the equivalent of a large corporation. Stay tuned for all of this to unravel.

It was May 29 at Cameron University, where NonDoc and Lawton’s KSWO hosted Mazzei and other Republican hopefuls and Mazzei, apropos of nothing but a straightforward question about OETA funding, hauled off and said this:

“What nobody’s really talking about is how do we change an education system that has been hijacked by the radical left. We have 77 counties in the state of Oklahoma that voted for Donald Trump three times in a row. We’ve got 541 school districts that are run by liberal left-leaning radical socialists.

“The only way that’s going to change, and the only way we’re going to get transparency and accountability in the system, is if the values of conservative Oklahomans are represented in the school boards …

“The only way that happens is if we change these bizarre election dates in the winter to the general election dates in November, and every school board candidate should designate whether they’re Republican or Democrat, so everybody knows their world view. That’s how we’re going to change education in the state of Oklahoma and that’s my plan.”

Sure, politicize school boards.

That way we won’t need a #$%@#%#@ idiot like Ryan Walters as state superintendent any longer, because we’ll have two, three or four on every school board, there to fly the flag of politics, not educate children.

In his alleged manifesto, Cole Allen, the man accused of targeting the White House correspondents’ dinner, called himself a “Friendly Federal Assassin” and created a list of targets for the shooting, formatted from highest to lowest priority, with Trump administration officials at the top, according to a report from the New York Post.

The manifesto, obtained by the Post, begins with apologies to those who knew the suspect and lists his motives for the shooting. It said the shooter targeted administration officials with the exception of FBI director Kash Patel.

“I am a citizen of the United States of America,” it said. “What my representatives do reflects on me. And I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes.”

“Turning the other cheek when *someone else* is oppressed is not Christian behavior; it is complicity in the oppressor’s crimes,” it later says.

The writer also describes security at the event as being weak. “Like, the one thing that I immediately noticed walking into the hotel is the sense of arrogance… The security at the event is all outside, focused on protestors and current arrivals, because apparently no one thought about what happens if someone checks in the day before,” it reads.

I'm apparently on this blocklist of "Genocide apologists" even though I've condemned more than once what Netanyahu has done to Gaza and now Lebanon. I have no beef with everyday Israelis--Bibi is the object of my scorn.

Fuck Trump and fuck Netanyahu. Listening to his spiel a little bit ago, rehashing things that happened nearly 50 years ago, smacks of Bush 43's justifications for invading Iraq. But also, seems important to share this one more time:

Breaking News Consumer's Handbook, from On The Media:
1. In the immediate aftermath, news outlets will get it wrong.
2. Don't trust anonymous sources.
3. Don't trust stories that cite another news outlet as the source of the information.
4. There's almost never a second shooter.
5. Pay attention to the language the media uses:
a. "We are getting reports" ... could mean anything.
b. "We are seeking confirmation" ... means they don't have it.
c. "[News outlet] has learned" ... means it has a scoop or is going out on (a) limb.
6. Look for news outlets close to the incident.
7. Compare multiple sources.
8. Big news brings out the fakers. And photoshoppers (I would add AI artists today, years after this was originally published).
9. Beware reflexive retweeting. Some of this is on you.

This was written several years ago with acts of mass violence (i.e. mass shootings) in mind, but I have long felt it applicable in most cases of breaking news. Inasmuch as what's going on at the moment, there most certainly is a second shooter.

We’d be remiss not to address the president’s latest, stomach-churning outburst of misogyny. After last week’s Epstein Files drop brought fresh sexual violence allegations against Donald Trump, CNN’s Kaitlan Collins attempted to ask the president what he would say to Epstein’s survivors—before he interrupted her:

“You are so bad. You are the worst reporter. …She's a young woman. I don't think I've ever seen you smile. I’ve known you for 10 years, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a smile on your face. …You’re a very dishonest organization and they should be ashamed of you.”

Dozens of women have accused Trump of sexual misconduct—including rape, assault, and even peeking in on children’s dressing rooms. He doesn’t bother to offer meaningful denials beyond countering that his accusers are “not [his] type.”

That’s because he doesn’t think he’s done anything wrong.

Thanks to Trump and the anti-abortion extremists who enable him, violence against women and girls is increasingly normalized—whether it’s living with a rapist president or watching as abortion bans torture and even kill people. He bullies Collins for being “a young woman”—like the young girls in the Epstein Files, like the young girls who are being denied emergency abortion care.
