Man the Marianas are just having one hell of a rough year. Going to be a real weird return when I get back to my field sites on Rota. For those of you who are there right now, stay safe and good luck.

Screenshot from zoom.earth of Super Typhoon Bavi on its approach directly over the island of Rota with an eye larger than the island itself. Currently the winds are registering at ~180 mph and will sustain that peak intensity the entire duration as the storm passes over the Marianas.

🦀 see a crab, post a crab 🦀 (or many many crabs perhaps!)

Coenobita perlatus (Strawberry hermit crab) party after cleaning out an opened coconut someone left on the beach. At least nine fist-sized crabs here are all scurrying around, checking for scraps. Their bright red carapaces contrast with the cream-colored sand and green-tinted turban shells on their abdomens.

I'm so pleased I can finally share my Antarctic Imperial Cormorant illustration for #PolarLights! This was a bird I knew little about before, but I quickly fell in love with their incredible colors and how they contrast against the vivid blue & white of the Antarctic landscape. 🎨 #SciArt #BirdArt 🪶

The local Tricolored are back in force! All I have for a camera is my phone so these are just excitement photos, not professional pics, haha. Around 200 today with females in their own little flocks carrying grass for nests. You all can celebrate warblers out east, this is what I look forward to! 🪶

Ahh it's not too late! Last day of #InverteFest this month. I've been swamped, but I wanted to get in here if I could with some of the invertebrates (and a toad) I illustrated last year for BLM interpretive signs based around a southeast Oregon desert pond, a small oasis. #SciArt 🎨 🦋🐝
