Butlerian Jihadist. Tech whinging, ham radio, weirdo metal.
Coming up sooner, and at a cooler venue - Mdou Moctar is playing zbar in September! I've never seen any Toureg rock live, and their album Ilana (The Creator) is one of my top non-metal albums of the last decade. Check 'em out on KEXP - www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pqv...
Welp, just picked up tickets to TWO local shows in an attempt to force myself to leave the house: First off, Sunn O))) is starting their next tour in Louisville! I wish it wasn't at Mercury but c'est la vie
Ted Lieu for the win this time, you could have posted this while Graham was still alive
This! No other work of art has stopped me in my tracks like the first Kehinde Wiley painting I saw, The Two Sisters, just absolutely striking. It doesn't hurt that it's 8+ feet tall and can swallow your entire field of view.
Kept putting off making more homemade sauerkraut for no reason and then the cabbage winds up being almost exactly 2kg after trimming and measuring the salt is the easiest thing in the world. I'll be seeing you in a few weeks.
Cooked some eggs up, shakshuka style, in leftover jambalaya as an experiment and it turned into quite a delicious brunch. 1 pan, easy mode!
Just stepped outside to look at the moon and my glasses fogged up. It's one in the morning and the heat index is 95 degrees F and THIS IS THE COOLEST IT WILL BE ALL WEEK
So my girlfriend's mom has adopted a young pair of cats that needed to be rehomed and we have an important update - it is nap time.
MSG commonly stands for two things and what are the odds this was my timeline...
I know everyone on bluesky is against big birthday celebrations today, and it's very much a "no kings" kinda place, but let's be a little contrary.... HAPPY 70TH BIRTHDAY, KING DIAMOND!!
I took part in the ARRL Digital Contest this weekend, working FT8 and FT4 on a couple homemade antennas. Not too terrible a showing for the time I put in, and let me say how appreciated the 8 hour option was - I had far too much gardening to do to compete for the whole weekend.
I've been compulsively listening to old Stooges albums since last night and then Iggy Pop is announced for Riot Fest this year. Is it a sign? I might take it as a sign...
Yesterday I woke up in a 'haunted' hotel in West Virginia, posed with a statue of Don Knotts, drank my first espresso tonic, drove through a couple hundred miles of thunderstorms, ate some tater tots, and saw Monstrosity, Repulsion, and Napalm Death play. Pretty cool for a Wednesday.
I've been averaging one POTA (parks on the air) activation attempt per month since I got my General amateur license and, after just short of a year and a couple failures / band crashes, I'm officially an *Activator*. Any excuse to spend time in parks is a good excuse, even radio nerding :)
Getting pretty hype about Maryland Deathfest... one week from today I'll be getting things started at the prefest, which is just _stacked_ this year. Any mutuals going?
Mental status this week is reminiscent of Arthur Dent shortly after being thrown out of the Vogon ship (1980s BBC edition)
Went to see Magic Sword and Dance with the Dead last night, great music and great vibes. I wasn't familiar with Magic Sword but they're great live, and endearingly goofy. DwtD had us asking why we weren't driving Ferraris at ludicrous speeds RIGHT NOW. Would recommend.
Realizing I mentioned the F-35 in alt text and then didn't include the picture because I didn't quite like it but you can't edit alt text and now I look stupid so... Here it is
It's the Fargate! Goes far, get it? And there is no way it came from that movie, or that syndicated series based on that movie.
Radio nerd update! Last month I took part in the ARRL DX contest, where US/CA stations try to hit other countries and vice versa. I wasn't competitive, but had a lot of fun working tons of new zones with 100 watts and homemade antennas.
