Happy #Letterboxd Friday What's YOUR #LastFourWatched? #filmsky This weekend included Christopher Nolan's classical epic (this time in IMAX), a surrealist film noir nightmare, a goofball 90s cyber-thriller, and Nobuhiko Obayashi's strange take on Little Women.
Happy #Letterboxd Friday What's YOUR #LastFourWatched? #filmsky This week included a classic of American independent cinema, a claustrophobic thriller with a great cast but middling script, a brilliant deconstruction of slashers and crime docs, and the capper to Spielberg's alien contact trilogy.
Me reacting to any statements from the White House or the federal government...
I had just been reading an old pulp scifi story set on Venus involving weird, glowing yellow skies, only to see it come to life outside due to the Canadian wildfires. Horrified me thinking of how bad it must be up there.
I'm not sure I have much to say about the passing of Sam Neill that hasn't been better said by others; he was a great actor but more importantly came across as a thoughtful, decent person. That's a great legacy. Thank you for the joy and inspiration you brought all of us through your work and life.
I can't say my reading habits are very mature lately but the escapism has been nice and frankly essential.
Happy #Letterboxd Friday What's YOUR #LastFourWatched? #filmsky This week included a bunch of rewatches, including an uneven remake of a horror classic, one of the best 1950s paranoia scifi flicks, a slight scifi/horror erotica comedy, and a Carpenter/Fulci-infused cosmic horror flick.
I remember mine. I went through two or three of these guys; web-swinging and battling evil can be tough on a toy.
"These men do not want a happy ship. They are deeply sick and try to compensate by making me feel miserable."
While he's well-regarded as a screenwriter, director, and artist, rightfully so, let's not forget his rarely exercised but undeniable skills as a comedic actor. His performance as Sgt. Pinback in Dark Star has so many brilliant moments, particularly his video journal scene.
Happy #Letterboxd Friday What's YOUR #LastFourWatched? #filmsky This week's viewing was bookended by two current horror blockbusters with roots in YouTube and also included a gritty street-racing classic and a gorgeously disturbing avant-garde stop-motion fairy tale.
