Me: I have a lot of work to do over the summer, but I will make sure I have suitable downtime. New puppy: ha ha ha, wait till you see what I've got planned...
I'll admit, I was there for the Nadia Boulanger Fantasie, recieving it's first Proms performance so stylishly from Alexandra Dariescu. However, I forgot how much Rachmaninov 2 is a powerhouse of a symphony. Utterly committed playing from the Hallé.
Halfway through and already BBC NOW and Ryan Bancroft are on amazing form. Messiaen and Strauss to come…
4. Having survived the tube, Monty now ready to greet fans at Kings Cross.
3. Big fan of the Bakerloo (Bakerloo?) line. Fun fact: he won’t do escalators so has to be carried…
2. Decided to keep guard of the toilet on the first leg of the journey. Has been called “long boi” more times than he can count on his paws…
I've been incredibly quiet on Bluesky recently, mainly thanks to the joys of bricking my phone and also a lot of writing to do. BUT! Thrilled that this album is now out in the world...
Emily d’Angelo singing the Angel in The Dream of Gerontius tonight with @londonsymphony.bsky.social was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen/heard…
Reflecting on a gorgeous weekend with SO many colleagues and friends. When you’re making music at such a high level with so many friends, it really does never feel like work. Huge thanks to everyone involved performing and behind the scenes!
These original sketches are currently on display at the Royal College of Music Museum, as part of a cabinet I co-curated with @sarahinthepark.bsky.social
There’s a brilliant new recording of an earlier version of the Quartet by the London Chamber Ensemble. Howells let revising the work for different reasons (he once left the MS on a train). It’s really interesting to compare the different versions!
Brilliant talk from @leahbroad.bsky.social all about Avril Coleridge-Taylor, Women's music-making in WWII, and issues in biography. All hosted by the Boulanger Initiative!
🥳🥳🥳 4.5 stars for Avril Coleridge-Taylor's Piano Concerto and Orchestral Works @jkaconductor.bsky.social @leahbroad.bsky.social
Not one, but TWO Coleridge-Taylor discs released today! One featuring the orchestral works of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor; the other, nearly all premiere recordings of Avril Coleridge-Taylor's orchestral works. Check them out! You won't be disappointed.
Bring on 21st November! This is a fantastic disc, and I’m so excited to see it go out into the world! Big congrats to the team: BBC Philharmonic, @jkaconductor.bsky.social , Samantha Ege, @leahbroad.bsky.social and Resonus.
@royalmusical.bsky.social Day one! Talking about Avril Coleridge-Taylor and her tone poems from the 1930s. Also on the company of the brilliant Lizzie Bowes and Gayle Murchison.
There are worse places to do archival research… spent this afternoon looking for Avril Coleridge-Taylor!
A brilliant day for Howells yesterday. First, an exceptional and thought-provoking talk from Dr @jonathanclinch.bsky.social on Howells and Paradise. Then, a brilliant performance of Paradise Rondel and Hymnus Paradisi under Adrian Partington. @threechoirs.bsky.social
Last night's Prom, featuring the UK premiere of Charlotte Sohy's 'Danse Mystique'! Hopefully the start of her music being heard much more in the UK. Excellent playing from Randall Goosby and the Orchestre National de France under Cristian Măcelaru. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...
Last night’s BBC Prom with the Samara Joy octet and BBC Concert Orchestra was one of the most extraordinary concerts I’ve ever been to. Such a high standard of musicianship and outpouring of love in the RAH last night. Won’t be forgetting it for a long time to come!
