My Dad knew the rules when he got his new Nikkorex F back in 1966.
I know you folks on the other side of the pond have been dealing with terrible heat for some time now. Well, we are now getting our turn in the hotbox here in Minnesotan. It feels similar to a cold snap in January, in that I’m stuck inside the house. I don’t like it one bit.
Some photos grow on me over time. This photo from the fall of 2025 is one such photo. The textures and tones are what pull me in. It’s challenging to get a good photo of the tamarack trees at my hiking spot. I managed it this time. Nikon D700 w/Nikkor 105mm f/2.5 Ai-S.
Here is one of the 20s exposures at ISO 200 and f/8. I had the camera set on auto ISO w/-2 EV of exp comp. I can't see one firefly that lit up during that time. The numbers just weren't great enough. Sunset is at 9 right now. This was made 27 min after sunset.
I have a problem…getting rid of old hiking shoes. These Keens are two gens ago. The heals are shot. I just got a new pair, so these have to go to make room for the new. Farewell old friends. You served me well.
I typically do not like to shoot wide open. I'm not a big fan of the completely blurred out background. But, I did shoot this photo at f/1.8 just for grins. Here is that version.
Here is the f/5.6 version of the coneflowers photo. Nikon Z7II w/Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 S.
Coneflowers in our garden. Nikon Z7II w/Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 S. Shot at f/4. I have another photo made at f/5.6 that I'll post next. I like how the out of focus areas render.
Out for a short walk in the neighborhood. I'm still nursing plantar fasciitis in my right foot. I'm putting the Nikkor 85m f/1.8 S lens through its paces. Nikon Z7II.
Tibetan restaurant in downtown Hopkins, MN. Nikon Z7II w/85mm f/1.8 S Nikkor.
Just so you don't start thinking I can't make photos in landscape orientation. Another take on that blue wall with vines and the no parking sign. Nikon Z7II w/85mm f/1.8 S Nikkor.
Another photo from the back alley of Hopkins Mainstreet. Nikon Z7II w/85mm f/1.8 S Nikkor.
Our CSA pickup is in downtown Hopkins, a first-ring suburb of Minneapolis that actually has a real downtown. I like getting out on the alleys behind the shops on Mainstreet (yes, it's spelled that way) to make photos. This time I got out with my new 85mm f/1.8 S prime lens and my Nikon Z7II.
After the overnight thunderstorm. Not bad for a #ShittyCameraChallenge camera. Panasonic Lumix ZS20.
After worship service today I stopped by the chapel and saw the organ lights were left on. I thought it made a beautiful, quiet scene, so I made a few photos from different angles. Nikon Z7II w/24-70mm f/4 S.
Here is the bottom left section of this photo at 300% with no noise reduction applied.
I don't understand what Lr is doing with its default color noise reduction (NR). It set the color NR on this photo at 26. This photo was shot at ISO 64 on my D850. There is no visible color noise in this photo even at 300%. I am going to be more careful to zero out those default NR settings in Lr.
I’ve been looking all over for this lens. Just why did I leave it in the bathroom! 🥴
And now for my #ShittyCameraChallenge version of the garden scene photo, sans the gray squirrel. Panasonic Lumix ZS20. Gotta love that sharpness when zoomed in! 😵💫
One of our many gray squirrels making an appearance in the frame. Nikon Z7II w/24-70mm f/4 S.
Beautiful golden late day light streaming through the crabapple trees in our front yard. Nikon Z7II w/40mm f/2 Z.
Out and about today with the 14MP Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS20 PAS digital camera for the #ShittyCameraChallenge. I could only barely see the screen in the bright sunlight. The zoom isn't working properly. I can zoom in, but then I can't zoom out again. Have to turn it off and then on again to zoom out.
Thank God! Many of us don’t have to go far back to trace our citizenship to birthright citizenship. My paternal grandfather became a citizen at birth because of birthright citizenship. His Swedish parents were not yet citizens.
I made a favorite portrait of my Dad on the lowly Lumix GF-1 at the forbidden ISO of 3200. I was in the Lumix MFT system from 2010-2017. The state of EVFs circa 2007-2012 prompted me to leave the system.
Plugging this baby in to be ready for the #ShittyCameraChallenge on July 1.
When I was recovering from knee replacement surgery I had a small Lumix PAS (DMC-ZS20) digital camera by my side. I’d make photos of our sweet boy Giovanni.
The shop where we get our framing done has the best selection of unique greeting cards. I also print my own blank cards that my wife and I use for various occasions. I've attached a screenshot of the Pages template that I created.
