“There is a time for the evening under starlight/A time for the evening under lamplight/(The evening with the photograph album)/Love is most nearly itself/When here and now cease to matter” Songdog LP Mirabilia Mundi out now
10.20pm and still light in the western skies. On the way home, a sleek little rat passed me, scurrying along the coast road and darting into the brambles. In the garden, the toad hid from my approach. Now all I need is to meet a mole and a badger, and I’ll have the set.
Wondered what was making such a racket in the copse behind me. Turned out to be two pigeons enjoying a summer romance.
Just signed up to the local sea swimmers training group app. Where will it all end?
In other news, I have bought one of those beach change robes with a hood. It is scarlet, and looks quite glamorous on the tall, slender model in the photo. On 5’4 not-slender me, however….
Just passed two teenage couples having a smoky bbq on the beach. ‘I’m Not In Love’ was playing on one of their phones. For a second I stepped through a break in the fabric of time.
Although I can see the landlords are having a dinner party so they might not like it.
Still very light and warm gone 10pm. The breeze is lovely, like standing in front of a hairdryer on cool.
First night for a week when I got over 4 hours but woke constantly. Lots of fever dreams.
That’s better. Stopped for a snack on the pier, under the watchful eye of a gull. I think I was about to pass out. It’s been a good day, though.
A brief break after Oli Mould’s Revolution and Psychedelics keynote before returning for Neil Fox’s conversation with Mark Jenkin. Been a very interesting day.
Can’t believe I’ve been in Falmouth all this time and never properly investigated The Touc (the pub below stairs in the venue vaults).
Lunchtime follows an interesting conversation between Graham Coxon and Rose Ellinor Dougal. (The running order has all changed, so now I find myself sitting alone on a sofa awaiting rumoured free pizza for everyone who has a day ticket.)
Arrived at the venue to find radio workshop has been cancelled, which is a pity. Sitar concert at 11am instead.
Talking of owls, I met the most wonderful European Eagle Owl on New Year’s Day this year, at a sanctuary in the South Wales valleys. Houdini. His handler put him on my shoulder. She said I could kiss him, as long as I avoided his head or claws. I kissed his wing. It was like meeting a mythical king.
