Wow Enslaved government.

The push became limited towards an enslaved government (disguised as “small government”). A wealthy man’s tollbooth could be imposed on those public services that could not be axed (yet) by “privatisation.” They worked to reverse the new protections from corporate injury. They fought to achieve a tax strike by the wealthy, leaving that contribution to community only to be paid by the salaried. Somebody had to pay for the police who protected the affluent’s property, the courts which protected their business dealings and the armed forces that protected their investments abroad.

There is no bad news here

Europeans are running studies on where they would store their data or process their payments should friction with the U.S. escalate, and how well their American-made weaponry would operate without Washington’s authorization. Nations whose empires once spanned the globe are now stuck trying to extricate themselves from their humbling dependency on American technology and military power, without provoking the U.S.

Reminds me of the many discoveries of the clitoris (although at least it WAS discovered)

Fallopio (he of Fallopian tube fame) claimed of the clitoris in 1561 that “it is so hidden that I was the first to discover it” (in Stringer & Becker, 2010, p. 132). Skipping forward in time, 16th and 17th century anatomists Caspar Bartholin of Denmark (the Bartholin’s gland was named after him), Jean Riolan the Younger from France (who seems to have been denied eponymous fame), and Regnier de Graaf from Holland (after whom the Graafian follicle on the ovary was named) all took a turn at saying “I found it!”.

It just keeps getting more and more fun

They just have to let the right boat go to the wrong coordinates at the right time, and the internet in Dubai goes dark for 5 months while Alcatel Submarine Networks politely declines to send a repair ship into an active war zone. Their flagship cable vessel, the Ile De Batz, is already stranded off Dammam with half a cable on the seabed and no way to finish the job. The repair industry has force majeure’d the entire region.
