This was a lovely tall batch of chives, potted up so they could get used to being inside and I could enjoy fresh chives this winter. Ossie thought this was a great idea, and the bloody nibbler has them trimmed down to about 4”. I’m gonna have to make a plant cage I guess. Dang Destructo-cat.

A pot of very short chives (index finger for scale) that Ossie thought was brought in for his nibbling pleasure. I’m gonna have to build a damn cage for these plants, thanks destructo-cat.

I am sitting outside having coffee and first one, then two! woodpeckers show up on my willow tree. They do NOT HOLD STILL so in the very centre of this photo is, trust me, one of them. #BadBirdPhotos

A lot of green willow leaves, a large branch mostly hidden. A few glimpses of blue sky. In the very centre of the picture, if you zoom in even more and squint, is part of a woodpecker head & neck.

Judging from the glimpses I got as they spiralled their way around the branches at subsonic speed, it’s smaller so probably a pair of Downys

My first cut, as it were, was fun but perhaps not quite as aligned as I would have liked 😆

A linocut print of a grain elevator in three colours (a deep maroon-red, dark green, and black) with, let me be honest, not great but in no way the worst image alignment of the batch. I had fun, I’ll probably have a go again, and the process of carving the rubber block we used was the most meditative and cathartic art process I’ve tried to date.

Somewhere in yesterday's long threads on the Catholic schism - specifically @clairewillett.bsky.social and @rahaeli.bsky.social - there was a "big boat stuck" reference and while I can't find it now I thought about it all night...so.

A version of the "big boat stuck" meme, the name of the large, stuck ship is EVER LEFEBVRISTS and the small people and earthmover on the bank at the lower left are saying "we asked you not to go there, we told you not to go there, but you had to go there..."

One built, one to go. Garden boxes for the deck, a cheap clearance from Peavey a few years ago. Decided I could use them this year. Wood is cedar and smells amazing! Everything dovetails so just using a hammer to tap things in to start. Strawberries? Herbs? Tomatoes? WHO KNOWS!!

An elevated wooden garden box in 2 sections: wooden base, approx 3x4 feet; and a green plastic cover to use as a greenhouse.

After several hours of waiting and 10 minutes of surgery, the cyst is yeeted. I’m having an apple fritter and a nap, in that order.

A wrist and hand, much pinker than usual (thanks antibiotic wash), with a big white gauze wrap around the wrist.

A delicious sourdough apple fritter with brown butter glaze. A worthy reward for a lot of uncomfortable hospital chair time.

Got books (probably more than I needed), spices from Silk Road, and had all our good knives sharpened at Knifewear. They donate part of that money to Pride orgs in every city they have a shop in all June, so get your knives done! Also, very stabby Pride sticker swag as an excellent bonus.

One of my absolute favourites.

A sun halo on a very cold winter day. The sun is brilliant white and the halo has flares at the four points. The ground is blue-white, the sky is an intense cold-winter blue, and there is a line of clouds on the far horizon separating the two.

A clean (slightly dusty) 2010 Toyota Venza, parked in front of a dealership. A good, reliable friend for 16 years. I trust it will make its next owner very happy, it’s certainly done well by me.

For folks replying who are a bit uncertain about alt text, you can search "how to write alt text" for ideas, but here's a good start. You can set your account to require alt text on images before you post, so you never forget. You have to transcribe text in an image - screen readers just see image.

Titled "Writing Alt Text", the slide suggests a basic approach alt text of identify who, expression, description, colour, interesting features. The example text says "a capybara looking relaxed in a hot spa. Yellow yuzu fruits are floating in the water, and one is balanced on the top of the capybara's head." A similar approach works for non-who images, you're just adding more description, colour, interesting features.

People who build permanent finish boxes around teleposts where the ground likes to tango (hello Regina Plains gumbo) between wet & dry years should have to come undo their decisions with their TEETH. Including the bit of wood at the top that blocks the turn hole.

Oh I really really really want to try these…we’re zone 3 so it’s *possible* they’d overwinter. So tempting. I could even try some in a container vs garden box, see if there’s any difference.
