Toronto's Community Crisis Service is making an impact on transit safety! Since their initial deployment on the downtown U of the subway last year, riders have been reporting feeling safer on transit. Here's how TCCS works to provide a care-based approach for people in crises! ⬇️

Toronto had the worst air quality in the world yesterday 🌎 In a world where transportation accounts for the largest share of CO2 emissions, getting more people to take transit instead of driving is a climate solution. Funding transit is a climate solution!

We hear far too many horror stories of near-misses from streetcar riders. Automated camera enforcement is just one part of the equation. We also need safe infrastructure that prevents incidents from happening in the first place! The solution already exists. Fund more platforms like this, please!

Thanks to more funding & greater priority to the TTC's state-of-repair backlog, slow zones are down by 74% since last July. Last year, a new accessible TTC standard for signs & displays was approved ahead of the World Cup. Making transit more reliable, fast, and easy-to-use is a winning combo!

The F*FA World Cup has left Toronto, but so many hard-fought transit wins are here to stay - like dedicated transit lanes, faster subway service, and new accessible signage! With over 1 million trips taken on transit to/from the games, public transit is the -real- winner of our World Cup ❤️🚌⚽

Last weekend, we celebrated the completion of dedicated transit lanes on Bathurst and Dufferin with a group ride-along, visiting shops along the way! With faster and more reliable transit, it's easier than ever before to visit the local shops that make Bathurst and Dufferin so great 🥰

Riders were at the TTC Board today! We spoke up in favour of real platform edge doors, more compassionate approaches to community safety, and against the deployment of enforcement in subways. Good day to speak up for safer transit ✊😌

Just over a year ago, volunteers held an action to makeover King Station with new, accessible signage. Then, in October, we convinced the TTC Board to forge ahead with a new standard for signage/information. We're thrilled to see one of our key asks, labelling exits, being implemented at Dufferin!

We were at Queens Park today to speak to MPPs about Ford's proposed takeover of the TTC through Bill 98. Riders & advocates spoke about the lack of explicit affordability guardrails in the bill, lack of consultation with the public, and the need for more provincial funding to run transit!

Starting today, candidates can register to run for city council & mayor. Over a million Torontonians take transit everyday - more than Chicago & Washington put together - and that number is growing. Let's remind candidates that transit riders are not a constituency that can be ignored. 1/2

Doug Ford is coming for the TTC. Bill 98 proposes massive changes to the transit in Ontario and risks a complete dismantling of the TTC. If this passes the TTC Board and City Council would no longer have control over the system.

Today, over 50,000 people crowd onto buses and head east from Kennedy. Current transit projects in Scarborough don't run through this area. Scarborough doesn't end at McCowan. A fast & reliable Scarborough East Rapid Transit line would fill this critical gap - but it won't happen without funding!

Friendly reminder that the Ford government cut $1 billion from TTC subway maintenance in 2019, and that the federal government just cut $5 billion from public transit funding in Canada, money the TTC could have used to fix their state of good repair backlog.

We circulated a transit policy survey to all MP candidates in Scarborough Southwest and University-Rosedale ahead of the 2026 Federal by-elections on April 13. We received responses from the NDP and Green campaigns in both ridings. Liberals provided written statements. No response from the Cons.

Completely agree that lagging lefts on their own aren't sufficient, but they have installed more effective signal priority (like phase rotation) on Spadina and they plan to roll that out to more LRTs and streetcars! We’ll hold them to that promise.

Last but not least - transit riders win! Mayor Olivia Chow is rolling out a new reward system as part of fare capping, as a new strategy to grow ridership. Win a Kennedy Station pigeon, a PRESTO card that looks like a beef patty, a decommissioned Scarborough RT train, or maybe a secret fourth thing.

In other news, Doug Ford has cooked up his latest solution to Toronto gridlock - converting tunnels of Line 1 into an underground highway. Pressed for details, he pulled out a one-page booklet titled "One more lane will fix it". City officials relieved to hear Metrolinx is managing the project!

Some big news stories today! The City of Toronto is pushing a new pilot project to speed up streetcars: Turning all traffic lights green! A new by-law will dictate that traffic lights can never be red or amber - only green. New all-green lights roll-out next week 🟢 1/3

Yesterday, leaders from all three levels of government announced that they'll be fully funding the Waterfront East LRT! We're glad to see big investments into new transit, and more like this could happen if the federal government expanded their transit-building fund 👀👀

Bill 98 proposes MASSIVE changes to transit. Language in this bill could mean that Toronto would lose its ability to set its own transit fares and discounts. Riders just won fare capping and a fare freeze. Hard-fought policies like these should not be overturned by the Ford gov't!

Last week, City Council committed to begin installing platform edge doors at key subway stations in 2027 🎉 This is a big step forward for safer and more reliable transit. The next step - making sure this plan gets funded!
