I first heard the term “fox’s wedding” in the beautiful Kurosawa film Dreams, where a little boy actually encounters a real fox’s wedding (and pays an interesting price for it).
This is a truly extraordinary novel bursting with life, ideas, sex, and art like all the best Burgess novels do!! But I don’t think I’ve ever seen an edition with a decent cover! My copy looks so dull - so different from the lusty spectacular novel that awaits you within!
We’ve just lost the author of one of my favourite history books. If you don’t know it, then get to know it!
I spot a Vesalius in there, updated and colourised and looking even creepier than the original!
Rather poetically, your beautiful photograph appeared on my feed right after this:
“And dad, what did the 80s FEEL like?” Well, on a good day, kinda like this…
I’m sorry Zack, you don’t have the easy charm and devastating beauty of that other fella.
Me too! I got “Mountains” for Christmas back in the 80s. The cover blew me away… and then so did the story!! I always associate “Mountains” with Christmas.
The daffodils on my windowsill in the UK say hello to your daffodils over in Kyiv! 💜💚💜💚💜💚
Just passed somebody wearing this tee shirt. And I thought to myself: I WANT it.
Wow! So lovely to see T&T renewed and fresh-faced for the 21st century!! I still have my treasured T&T box set from a million years ago… It now feels like a grandparent proudly watching its grandkid growing up!
I always thought they did an amazing job of rendering the Cygnus on film with the technology they had. (But then again I’m so old that I actually saw this movie when it came out and maybe have dated expectations about special effects!!!)
