26) The Matrix (1/?) i’ve always been curious about this film considering how much i see it referenced everywhere. definitely did not disappoint. you can feel the ghost in the shell dna everywhere, and the action scenes near the end were absolutely sick as hell. also Keanu Reeves is the mc what??

25) Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1/2) for how old this movie is, i was surprised by how much fun I had with the writing/comedy. it feels like it was made way ahead of its time. just a very endearing and lovable movie. also love the random animated/4th wall bits they’re utilized perfectly

24) ENA: Dream BBQ (chapter 1) obsessed with how this game looks. it feels so surreal and i was unnerved in the best way at certain points (that caaaaave). definitely going to be a game i think about for awhile, and i can’t wait to see what’s next

23) Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (rewatch) fallen a bit behind again so I’m playing catchup for the next few entries. this rewatch felt very rejuvenating, still absolutely adore this movie. the way it expands on Miles’ character is truly remarkable and it’s consistently so entertaining

22) Cosmic Princess Kaguya this might be one of the best animated films I’ve ever seen I’m being so serious. this being Yamashita’s directorial debut fucking blows my mind. and the story overall is just so sweet. don’t really want to spoil it so plz go watch it if you haven’t yet somehow

21) Dandadan volume 17 really love how Momo is characterized in this volume, there’s so many cute interactions between her and Zuma. seeing her soft side is just so sweet. chef frogs

20) Summer Wars was really interested in this film since I remember really liking The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and it almost entirely lived up to that. really like the online world imagery, and the animation in those sections was consistently spectacular. just wish there was a bit more of it

19) Kirby Canvas Curse for how short this game is I honestly had such a blast with it overall. absolutely adore this game’s art style/music, it’s so off kilter in like the best way. really cool to see Kumazaki’s roots in that regard. very glad I finally played it

18) Dandadan volume 16 another great volume. the whole isekai board game thing feels very Hunter x Hunter which is kinda neat

17) The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity the whole school rivalry thing felt a bit silly sometimes but I think that was kinda their intent. absolutely adore Waguri/Tsumugi relationship they are soooo cute together. in general the show was just very comforting to me

16) Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (rewatch) fuck this film is still absolutely peak. the pacing feels just right and I adore this film’s sense of humor. very pretty movie too. the main cast is also established so well. just genuinely such a perfect movie and I don’t use that term lightly

15) Ranma 1/2 (s2) have a bit of catching up to do so let’s get this rolling. genuinely completely forgot to watch the last episode until about 10 days ago. liked this season about as much as s1 tbh, just a pretty fun and charming romp with some great animation

14) The Wind Rises (1/2) absolutely breathtaking in every sense of the word. you can just feel Miyazaki’s passion for planes bleed through this entire film, it genuinely got to me a bit. i was expecting the whole love story thing to start earlier than it did but it was still handled so well

13) FLCL (yes I including 3 posters I literally couldn’t narrow it down) (1/??) fuck. just wow, that was phenomenal. gainax, and by extension trigger, are what largely got me into anime in the first place. this show has been a curiosity of mine for so long, and well it certainly delivered

12) From up on Poppy Hill (1/?) well that was certainly a Goro directed movie. tbh I don’t know if I like this film more than Earthsea or not. I don’t know if it’s as much of a nothingburger but I also just, didn’t really feel much towards either of the main duo. animation wasn’t crazy good either

11) The Bad Guys (rewatch) felt kinda depressed all afternoon yesterday so I figured this would help pick me up. still really love this film, the entire story is just so frenetic and oozes style. THIS is what i wished more 3D animation was like. core story is simple but i like the main cast

10) Wastelandia another really great yt short, kinda reminded me of Kitty Bobo which is a huge compliment. love how fast they get all 3 main characters established, makes me kinda want more out of it tbh. also damnnnn I want to live in an apartment with friends like this grrrr

9) Ponyo (rewatch) (1/?) and to round off the day, i rewatched ponyo for the first time since I was about 6 last Wednesday. so weird thinking about how this was my first ever anime and im so glad it was, this film is (more or less) just as breathtaking as i remember it being when I first watched it

8) Kid A - Radiohead (2000) i want to keep cataloging more full albums this year, and this was such a great start. fuck with this album’s whole atmosphere so much, it feels so otherworldly and has stuck with me a bit already. very much looking forward to listening to more of their catalogue

7) Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End (issue 1) decided to start reading the Frieren manga in lue of s2 coming out and gourd this series still has my heart i think. the manga art is genuinely gorgeous, I wasn’t expecting it to look as good as it did. honestly makes me appreciate the anime even more

6) We Cool?? i actually haven’t historically counted yt shorts/pilots but I’m trying to change that this year. the writing felt so realistic and hit really close honestly. love when works like this show characters talking over each other occasionally. animation do be pretty too

5) The Devil is a Part-Timer! ok so I’m so so sorry, I’ve been slacking hard on updating this 🧵. anyway, i adoooore this show. the dub might genuinely be one of my new favorites, it’s consistently so entertaining. and the animation is top tier too especially early on. so glad I finally watched it

4) It’s Bunlith! The Witch Upstairs (pilot) really cute pilot. obviously there isn’t too much yet but I’m really excited to see what the show’s like once more of it is out!

3) Mashle (season 2) yeah I did watch this anime solely because of this op sue me. but genuinely, i had a lot of fun with this anime! the humor is really dumb sometimes but I find it kinda endearing. not much else to really add, had a lot of fun with the main cast and that’s kinda all i needed

2) Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (movie) (1/2) still obsessed with this movie. got an itch for it in lue of the Unbeatable playthrough. the direction is so distinct and the pacing is perfect, like it’s fast but it doesn’t feel too fast. also very funni.
