Burlap sacks to stacks of servers: Different methods for storing archival documents at the French national archives over the centuries. 💿💾💻💰📦📜🇫🇷
Archival professionals, ever had a job as an archives page? Be thankful for that squeaky cart, because in France, pages used a wooden backpack to bring patrons their boxes of documents!
Speaking of archival boxes🗃️📦, beautiful types used over the years by France's National Archives to store historical documents. #AccidentalWesAnderson
This room in the Hôtel de Soubise served as France's first archivists' school (École des chartes). Can you say "respect des fonds?" The room was damaged by the massive weight of shelves housing archival boxes, eventually needing major repairs.
Today the Musée des Archives Nationales offers a history of France based on archival documents. - Book of fabrics worn by Marie Antoinette in 1782 - Duke of Wellington's case of documents stolen from Napoleon's brother - Knife used in duchess' murder, saved as trial evidence
Born out of revolution, France's national archives formed a year after the storming of the Bastille. The archives was created to preserve the records of the French Republic, and was housed in Paris' medieval Hôtel de Soubise until 2004.
Bonjour and happy #BastilleDay! France has a long and robust archives tradition, something I explored at the Musée des Archives Nationales, a museum run by the French National Archives.

It was an honor to attend the @uaw.org’s Constitutional Convention this week. Lots of great needle drops and musical performances, but my personal fave was hearing The Clash as the convention adjourned. That’s my jam.

Enjoying the spirited debate at the @uaw.org Constitutional Convention this week, but I have one question. What happened to the geometric, modern ceiling at Detroit's convention center? That was a sharp look. 📸 @reutherlibrary.bsky.social,
