Honestly can’t tell if this is satire - screenshot of the F1 hotel chain’s TikTok page … the tag line says, “The hotel for big rats, like you.” Surely not?
Didn’t make it. Awaiting instructions from the driving agency but they seem to have their fingers in their ears and are going lalala.
Unforeseen noise issue at Lancaster services: this tower is all very well but its underside reflects the din of the motorway all over the surrounding area. I suppose the roads were a lot quieter when it was built.
Prompted by this post: just because your autistic person doesn’t usually go out alone it doesn’t mean we’re not capable. In my SAR days I often heard, “They never go anywhere alone!” but my first walk without my parents aged about 7 happened because I had formed a plan on my own and executed it.
Very long shot but has anyone lost this key on a train that arrived at Victoria from Kent this morning? I’ll hand it to the guard. #southeastern #lostproperty
Anyway, I found another hotel and it was INCREDIBLE. Castillo Bonavia, right by the motorway in the manner of a Travelodge but got up to look like a full-on medieval castle. Apparently they do weddings, should you feel the need. And there’s lots of parking!
Made my way to the Estacio Nord thanks to very helpful staff in the metro at the airport. The station is magnificent and the Plaza de Toros is right next door. (Disclaimer: not a fan of messing with bulls for entertainment.)
I recently joined @annelouiseavery.bsky.social’s Patreon and got home last night to a lovely surprise - a handwritten card from Old Fox himself with news of his friends and pressed flowers from the village. A genuine treat! Thank you Anne and Old Fox. 🦊
Morning Cathy and ORCs, enjoy the dog walk in the sun! Currently at Geneva station bumming some wifi off Swiss Railways and charging my phone with a solar panel. Have bought my favourite Swiss drink. Very hot here, thankfully I can take this job slowly.
This is a cat checkpoint: relinquish your most recent cat picture on your phone.
Looks like Chatham is about to get its very own Shit Wonka K-Pop “This isn’t the show we were expecting” compo face moment.
Morning Clare and ORCs. Day off today, will go out for a walk around the neighbourhood this morning, taking turns according to a roll of two dice, and see where it takes me. Mended a pair of jeans sashiko style yesterday, something I’d like to get better at. Have a good day all!
Another Travelodge security oopsie: the button on the door which appears to be a lock does nothing, in fact the door lock doesn’t appear to have any locking mechanism from the inside. Have deployed my little plastic temporary lock as a backup.
Horrified to read of some of the incidents of unauthorised access to people’s rooms that have happened in Travelodges, given how often I use them. Supposedly they’re putting an emergency contact number on guests’ key card wallets - that news clearly hasn’t reached the hotel I’m staying at tonight.
Morning Steve and ORCs, from Oakhampton where the YHA is rather well equipped for coffee lovers. Off to Exeter to pick up a van which I’ll drive to Loughborough. Considering a road trip to Wick after that, which I’m sure I shall live to regret if I take it on.
In a French F1 hotel as usual on these trips, and enjoying the wallpaper made up of vintage travel posters. Bit puzzled by this one. The artist’s name is Aage Rasmussen and it’s dated 1937:

I’m puzzling over how on earth the Swiss nightclub fire could happen. Below is an excerpt from the Wikipedia article about the Station nightclub fire in the US (aka the Great White fire), which seems similar. How could sparklers of all things ignite the decor?
