She would take those terrified nights one more time, that huge fucking fight after that, break another one of those priceless porcelain vases by accident and be so horrified she might hurl. Caitlyn's eye lingers on her today as it always does. She steps closer, the face towel tossed aside. For a moment Vi thinks Caitlyn might kiss her, but a thumb darts out instead to the corner of her mouth, brushing away a stray crumb she must have missed.

Those eyes have blue in them. She regrets speaking even as a part of her recoils further at the thought of lying. The devil and the deep blue sea. Which of them is she?

"I apologize," she says. "I should know you, shouldn't I?"

There is a scar on the woman's top lip, she notices, as her lips part in a tremble.

"Cait," that same name is breathed with a gravity, with a weight, with a plea. It slides deftly through the spaces in her ribs even though there is no logical reason why it should hurt. But she doesn't need an explanation. Perhaps she has not needed one this whole time.

-don't treat disability as a trope; it's not a costume to take on and off (this includes using disability purely for whump factor, hurt/comfort, meetcutes, or as a vehicle for you to show off how cool and inclusive you are by writing about disabled people)
-again, i have to stress. have someone with the disabled identity in question look at your fic
-you may think that you are creating "good representation" by removing all challenges your characters' disabilities pose to their lives. you are not. talk to disabled people in real life, i'm begging you

She is well aware that she is being difficult.

It would not be the first time someone has described her as that in more polite words, nor, Caitlyn suspects, will it be the last time someone does so. She is not trying to be difficult on purpose—there is rather no point in that and she has no desire to add to the stresses that those around her are already suffering. If anything, she'd much rather they cease this ridiculous babying and let her do things that will help.

She's healing, yes, but she's not incapacitated. She's wounded, yes, but she's not immobile. She has two good hands, half of a good leg, a good eye, and a brain that is gnawing desperately at the bars of its enclosure, rattling against the inside of her skull. She can't sit still, she finds it so difficult to hold her tongue and stars above, she's trying.

She really is.
