Silly little treats x

Am I engaging in an immoral act by continuing to purchase my icecream from a known territorial axeman? Am I endorsing acts of violence by throwing my lot in with the blue icecream van? And, if I am, does that violence outweigh the convenience of not having to walk all the way to the corner shop? But then: who knows what acts of horror might be propping up the corner shop! The moral of the story here is that there are always unknown acts of violence and horror behind every little treat; this is what it is to exist in the world today. There can be no ethical consumption under capitalism, even or perhaps especially consumption of horrible icecreams.

There is a REASON why corporate wellness initiatives so often focus on "resilience". The goal is for you to put up & shut up.

Page excerpt from Q is for Garden by Jenny Chamarette. We’ll train you how to put up with more and more shit, pile it on till it’s over the top of your head. Blame you when you can’t breathe. If you are resilient, able to withstand the social forces that tell you that your body, your mind, your gender (dis)orientation, your ways of living and loving are wrong, then you are described as ‘brave’. What a load of shit to layer on.
Resilience that is about what I lack, about getting tough, is of no interest to me. But it is of great use to the labour-spinning machine of capitalism.
Hard resilience is a way of building perfect robots. Little workers who never get ill, who can withstand precarious employment, the erosion of pensions and healthcare and citizenship, the struggle to find meaningful work in communities that they love, the difficulties of raising a family when distance from the extended village, and the astronomical costs of childcare, make it hard to do anything other than work, and work, and work, and work.
If resilience is about tolerating the intolerable, I’ll have no part of it.
Fuck resilience.

Research shows consistent links between neurodivergence and dysautonomia (Arora et al., 2021; Csecs et al., 2022; Owens et al., 2021). A neurodivergent brain is not just a neurodivergent brain, after all: it is a neurodivergent brain, in a neurodivergent body, with a neurodivergent nervous system.
Which is another way of saying, of course, that the body is the brain - the brain is the body. The false dichotomy of the two serves no one, much as we (and I particularly) might like to be able to separate our higher conscious workings from the stumbling meat sack with dodgy wiring that they are packaged into. Unfortunately, we are the badly-wired meat sack and we have to work out how to puppet both meat and wires in concord.

A nice little day-off trip to Doreen Fletcher's gallery exhib at Spitalfields Town House. A good job, really, that the one of Aldersbrook is already sold, or I'd have been tempted to blow my wad.
