On July 21, 1930, Executive Order 5398 was signed bringing together the Veterans' Bureau, the Bureau of Pensions, and the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers into one agency and creating the Veterans' Administration. Today, we celebrate the VA's 96th anniversary.

Military voters and their families rely on absentee ballots because service does not always happen near a polling place. Protecting their access to mail ballots honors a basic promise: if you serve this country, your country should protect your right to vote.

There's a lot of talk about election processes -- and particularly about voting by mail. Many active duty military and their families need to mail in their ballots when they are deployed. Restrictions on mail in ballots could mean they can't vote. We know this about elections ⬇️

We are pleased to see the VA halt the enforcement of this rule and hope that the VA understands how harmful this action would have been to the veterans it was created to serve. We were proud to partner with veterans groups around the country to push back against this rule.

In light of today's tragedy in Minneapolis, we offer condolences. We wanted to remind everyone that ICE is not the same as the military. We see the military in our communities largely through the National Guard. We should all know the difference between the National Guard and ICE.
Veterans served shoulder-to-shoulder with Afghans who saved American lives. America promised to protect them. Our promise is a moral obligation, a national security imperative, & essential to the veterans who served with them. We must reaffirm our commitment to all who served.
We have a message for ICE... History remembers what we do and there is always accountability eventually. That's not a prediction, it's a fact.
