Walking arm in arm with my then girlfriend right after Albania beat Serbia in a football qualifiers, no threats, no slurs, no violence, not even pointed stares

There were no serious injuries from the assault, it was managed and everyone moved off safely with no police interference (until now). Further carceralisation after the fact does nothing to actually prevent future harm from those who wish to harm us and instead builds a learned helplessness among our communities that we can only rely on the State to protect us, the same State which we are seeing more and more wishes to have us eliminated. If this helplessness can be learned then it can be unlearned and the State will see what organised trans wrath looks like.

Who will be violently enforcing bathroom ban, who already violently enforces repression on the most marginalised among us?

And who protects us?

ON THE ARREST FROM SATURDAY'S TRANS LIBERATION DEMO

We are appalled at the news, and in particular the community reaction to it, that one person has been arrested in the wake of Saturday's Not Your Scapegoat demonstration against the supreme court's EA2010 ruling.

The events which led to this arrest came just after the successful confrontation of Alek Yerbury* on New Street. This man, self-styled after hitler, surrounded by a meager fascist gang of his so-called National Rebirth Party (several of whom we have been able to identify), was successfully driven off. This should be the focus of our attention in this new week. Trans mobilisation moved these cowards off, not the cops nor 'security' staff, and this has been near entirely scrubbed from the public record.

On the arrest, we do not dispute the general series of events, that people on the demo were assaulted, allegedly by the arrestee, and we send our love and solidarity to those affected by the assault. However, we come out against the carceralisation** of this person and 'activists' demanding prosecution. The person allegedly linked to the assaults was seemingly unaffiliated with Yerbury, and was seemingly more upset by swearing than the cause of the demo. The likes of Yerbury's fascist LARP, but especially the so-called british state that may continue to carceralise the arrestee, are far more harmful to Trans people than any singular individual who we will likely never meet again.

The conditions that necessitated this demonstration are the same conditions now placed upon the arrestee, those of bodily control and domination.

Singular prosecution of so-called 'hate crime' does nothing to liberate Our healthcare, Free our Comrades, and bring back Our Dead. It only allows for the police to "gain legitimacy...while justifying the expansion of policing and surveillance power which primarily target poor, Black, Muslim, [Queer, Trans], and undocumented communities."***

We reject the celebration of this arrest, and we reject the narrative being built up that queer and trans communities are weak and in need of the Strong Police to save us. We reject making a scapegoat of this one person in the eyes of the State, placing the blame for transphobia at their feet, at a demo which should have understood the issues with doing this. We should instead be celebrating the fact that fascists attempting to build a base in Birmingham turned tail and fled almost as soon as they saw us coming. They know, as the State knows, that we are a force to be reckoned with when we act together.

We need people available to provide station support over the next few hours.
