Overall mental wellbeing was maintained. The study highlights that such practices undertaken by a large number of practitioners in India and across can be safely studied and could have potential benefits for cardiometabolic health. Further large-scale controlled trials are needed
During the fasting period, transient changes were observed in hepatic enzymes, bilirubin, uric acid, creatinine, and lipid fractions, which were reversible by follow-up (Day-69). hsCRP, HDL, and LDL became better as compared to baseline.
Blood was collected before, after, and two months days after the baseline to estimate the impact of various biomarkers. We found that the practitioners observed strict fasting, blood glucose settled after a couple of days, and stabilized - no clinical hypoglycemia.
30 days without eating anything!! Praying, meditating, fasting, and doing normal day-to-day activities. We conducted Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) to confirm that fasting was observed. The research was done in strict supervision of doctors and support staff.
We can do so much cool stuff with layer fMRI and high-resolution imaging using 7T. Frankfurt is pretty this time of year and home to some lovely museums. Really glad that IIT Gandhinagar and DAAD German Academic Exchange Service for giving opportunity to build interesting collaborations.
The highlight of the visit was my first scan on a 7 Tesla high-field MRI scanner, which can provide a better look at brain function. Beaming after the success of the scan. Thanks a lot to Dimo Ivanov for all the help with the scanning.

Had a great time with the batch of graduating Master's students from Integrative Neuroscience & Technology Lab at IIT Gandhinagar at their farewell dinner and bowling. It was a pleasure having them in the group and working on the various aspects of human cognition and neurobiology.

Another NeuroAI Conclave was organized at IIT Gandhinagar by Sharad and Ashutosh. I presented my work on use of AI models to make predictive models of fMRI based FC to predict function in healthy individuals, tumor patients and predicting tau/amyloid in AD.
I talked about the recent advancements in NeuroAI that we are starting to work on from developing better learning rules for ANNs, finding representation similarities between human and animal vision models to developing hybrid SNNs and CNN models for optimized object detection.
So glad to see the activity around NeuroAI happening in Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar area. First, I had a lovely discussion at Ahmedabad University's NeuroAI symposium. Thanks Rupesh Chillale for inviting me. It was lovely meeting Shihab Shamma after about 10 years.
Met with amazing scientists Neeraj Kumar and Rahul Kumar as well, and discussed potential areas of collaboration.
IIT Hyderabad: Also had a great time playing for the IIT Gandhinagar TT team at the Inter IIT sports meet. Even though we didn't go further in the tournament, the women's TT & men's badminton team did such a great job, was glad to support them.
INCOFYRA 2026: Organized by SVYASA in Bengaluru, a beautiful campus dedicated to research and teaching the art and science of Yogic practices. I discussed some of our findings related to the neuroscience of meditation and yogic processes.
It was a diverse conference with talks ranging from psychological perspectives on Buddhist and Yogic thought processes to neuroscientific discoveries. It was lovely talking about my work on the Yogic insights into Consciousness and mind sciences backed by the neuroscience of yoga
Had a great experience at some of the lovely conferences in the last couple of months Tibet House conference: I gave a talk at the Conference on Neuroscience and Psychology, organized by Tibet House in Delhi in November.
As the current semester comes to a close, I had the pleasure of teaching the NeuroAI: Neuroscience & Artificial Intelligence course at the IIT Gandhinagar, possibly one of the first time it was offered in India. The course aims to create an understanding of how the brain can inspire newer AI models

Something interesting is happening in the brain during SKY. The breathing period triggers theta oscillations in the brain, which leads to an increase in low theta and delta oscillations during the meditation period coupled with a sharp decrease in alpha oscillations.
