Cork 🇮🇪 Going nowhere slowly.....😎
#NP The Strokes | Reality Awaits It's a pure pop sugar rush, no other way to describe it. Please don't conflate that with lack of substance: Reality Awaits positively sparkles. The cover art is a bit suspect though: some basic quality control wouldn't have gone amiss. But the music's ace 🎯 👍
(not so) oblique strategies for avoiding housework - Welcome to the weekend 😎 (still no turntable in the local, but we live in hope 😂)
#NP Gwenno I Utopia Time for a quick recap of my favourite album from last year before Gwenno's gig in The Savoy Cork 🇮🇪, tomorrow. Patti Smith, Gwenno and Mercury Rev all in the one week. Mrs. B reckons I'm living a charmed life, and I'm not inclined to disagree: a personal Utopia as it were 😊
'Our Commander' was in sparkling form in the hallowed precincts of King John's Castle in Limerick 🇮🇪 tonight. A stunning high summer gig. Personal highlights for me Dylan's Man In The Long Black Coat and Patti's own Pissing In A River. Tuesdays don't get much better 😎
#NP Black Uhuru | The Island Anthology Much richeous love for Culture in this parish but the mighty Black Uhuru were also foundational for me. Still vibrant, beautifully recorded and totally on point. Uncertain? Check out 'Bull In The Pen' - 'the mark of the beast is on the president' 'nuff said.

#NP MLVC | Confessions II 'so how's your evening so far?' Listening at home but thinking that I really should be hearing all of Confessions II on the dancefloor over a larger than life soundsystem. To use the local vernicular she's knocked this one out of the' pairc' (park). Primetime Madonna 👌
#NP Judie Tzuke | Turning Stones I was delighted to find my 2026 rereleased CD of Judie's 1989 album waiting for me at home yesterday. A timely reminder of an often overlooked pearl in her catalogue. The new CD also comes with a digital download of some previously unreleased (and excellent) tracks.
#NP Tara Clerkin Trio | Somewhere Good First spin of an album by an artist totally new to me. Perfect listening for a languid summer's evening. Straddles jazz, indie and alt rock quite effortlessly. I have @philk282.bsky.social and the good folk of Plug'd Records to thank for this introduction 👍 🙏
#NP Virgin Prunes | Hérésie 'Shamed' into finally playing this superb RSD26 reissue of the original 1982 EP by @robertusrex.bsky.social & @marseline.bsky.social 😂 🙏 (There'll be none of that heretical talk of mixing blackcurrant & whiskey in this house. Straight up is gothic enough for me 🤣)
#NP Beth Orton | The Ground Above First spin of Beth Orton's new album and I cannot imagine a more perfect listen on a beautiful (and cool) summer evening. It is just so wonderfully crafted and creates such a fabulous atmosphere. Looking forward to listening to this one in depth, a great start 👌
Four plus decades in and frankly Paul Weller knows what it means to put on a 'proper' eras tour. The man and band were on scintillating form tonight in Cork 🇮🇪 Not to overstate it but probably my favourite Marquee gig ever, with apologies to Tom Petty, but here we are. Absolutely Mint 😎

Shall we agree to ten minutes past the hour @marseline.bsky.social & @robertusrex.bsky.social 😎
#NP Patti Smith Group | Radio Ethiopia My first PSG album, Easter was in the headlights, Horses in the rear view mirror. I am still utterly entranced by this album, which always feels to be slightly 'unknowable', yet reveals more and more with each listen, even decades later.

#NP Yes | Aurora Like metal if prog was part of your musical awakening then it never really leaves. So I find myself totally engrossed in Yes' superlative 24th studio album, which is totally in sync with the band's legacy and crucially will add to it. Looking forward to getting the vinyl now 😎
#NP Joan As Police Woman | Real Life Evolution A gorgeous reimagination of Joan's debut Real Life, with the added benefit of the songs being out in the world for twenty years. The original is fabulous and somewhat unsurprisingly so is Evolution. One of my favourite artists of the past two decades.
#NP UFO I The Wild, The Willing and The Innocent Finally collected my copy of the 2026 remaster of the 1981 UFO album, and all's well: it's a super faithful remaster of a bona fide classic. The bonus 1981 concert is also superb. Touring took its toll from here, but this was their finest moment.

#NP The Dream Syndicate | Sketches for Medicine Show Fabulous live insights to what would become one of the band's most loved albums. Incredibly it's additional to the recent 4 CD edition of the album. Karl's guitar playing is a joy to listen to, and the 'loose' feel really suits the songs 🎯 🔥 👍
#NP KÁRYYN I Physics Universal Love Language Hard to believe that KÁRYYN's debut album The Quanta Series was released in 2019, but here we all are, and so so happy that there's a sophomore. Music theory needs to take back seat on a Saturday: electropop to die for. Absolutely Mint 👌
#NP Ultravox | The Re-Mixes What else is an old Mk II fan to do on a rainy Friday night? This recent RSD26 breakout from 'The Collection' box set is hitting all the right notes. A mint collection of remixes that really play to be strength of the original tracks. And a superb vinyl pressing 👍
#NP Midge Ure I A Man Of Two Worlds | World Two : Songs 'Songs' is a different type of quiet and reflective compared to 'Music' with a very full and lush sound and some great vocals and lyrics from Midge. Both albums are quite symbiotic, and compliment each other. Further spins assured 👍 🎧 🎼
