Hi! I talk about video games (History, illustrations, graphic design, cancelled games, sales figures, etc.) By @domauffret.bsky.social
Yu Suzuki, Shoichiro Irimajiri, Shuji Utsumi (Sega) and Jensen Huang (NVIDIA) at an event held today to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the start of the collaboration between NVIDIA and Sega, at the GiGO game center in Akihabara. xcancel.com/i/status/207... 1/2
As a bonus, the box art for Baseball Star - Mezase Sankanou!! and God Slayer (illustrated by Hiroko Yokoyama / 横山浩子, who joined Video System shortly after) vgdensetsu.net/hirokoyokoya...
SNK is celebrating the 43rd anniversary of the Famicom by posting artwork from Famicom games, including two titles that were originally ADK games: Satomi Hakkenden and Famicom Meijin Sen. xcancel.com/SNKPofficial...
It’s that time of year when the Famicom, the SG-1000 and the SC-3000 all celebrate their anniversaries. As was revealed just a few months ago, the SC-3000 was developed by Foster Denki, then Sega’s engineers turned it into a console version – the SG-1000 – to compete with Nintendo’s console.
Note that you won’t find all the games supposedly illustrated by Shinkiro for Capcom or SNK in these books. Examples include Glass Rose, Psi-Ops and Gururin (although I’m not 100 per cent sure that the latter was illustrated by him).
A list of Shinkiro’s illustrations featured in these two artbooks. It’s easy to recognise a Shinkiro illustration when you see one, but there are loads of games for which he had never been properly credited until now. Also: World Heroes 2?? xcancel.com/LilFormers/s...
Rockin' Kats / New York Nyankies illustration by Shin Megami Tensei designer Kazuma Kaneko. He worked as a character designer on the game and you can find the line art of this illustration in the game manual. xcancel.com/kazumaKaneko... gamemanual.midnightmeattrain.com/entry/%E3%83...
Yanoman had been teasing the return of several of their games for the past few months and, as Kan Naito pointed out, the announcement of their compilation coincides with the third anniversary of Yoshitaka Tamaki’s death (Naito and Tamaki both worked on Feda). vgdensetsu.net/yoshitakatam...
Speaking of Mark III games, Teppei Sasakura (Golden Axe, Ashguine) recently posted the box art for The Pro Yakyū Pennant Race on Instagram. vgdensetsu.net/teppeisasaku... www.instagram.com/teppei_sasak...
During a livestream broadcast today, animator Chūichi Iguchi / 井口忠一 "confirmed" that he had drawn the box art for the 2 Zillion games released on Mark III. The problem is: when I asked him about it 2 years ago, he told me that wasn’t the case... youtu.be/jaVEOXUGuRk... twitter.com/chuichi_iguc...

Did you know: before composing the music for Secret of Mana, Hiroki Kikuta drew a manga. xcancel.com/Hiroki_Kikut...

I think Yoshiharu Sakakibara mainly worked as a graphic designer at Namco, but he also illustrated a few games such as the arcade version of Wonder Momo: www.mobygames.com/developer/sh...
Phelios poster drawn by Namco in-house artist Yoshiharu Sakakibara / 榊原芳治 for Namco NG and later used for the cover of Namco Video Game Graffiti Volume 6.

30 years ago today, Sega released Nights and the Multi Controller for the Saturn, just 2 weeks after the N64 and its controller with analog stick. 2 weeks is also roughly how long it took Sega to start developing its 3D controller following the first playable demo of Mario 64 on November 24, 1995.

Some works by Yūichirō Komoriya / 小森谷勇一郎: Yokai Dōchūki arcade flyer (also used for the cover of the PC Engine and Famicom games) Galaga '88 logo Splatterhouse instruction card illustrations xcancel.com/setouchipro/... xcancel.com/Area51_zek/s... xcancel.com/Area51_zek/s...
Based on an idea used in Rad Mobile, Sonic appeared in Sega SuperCoaster, a simulator running on the AS-1 system that underwent a location test (in 1991, according to Kenji Sasaki) but was ultimately never released. xcancel.com/sasappo/stat... segaretro.org/Sega_SuperCo...
Yuri graphic designer Yujirō Hayami / 速水融次郎 drew several sprites for characters standing in the background for KOF 95, including Eiji and Saisyu. xcancel.com/hayamiu/stat...
(she had already been in charge of this character in Street Fighter Alpha), vgdensetsu.net/erinakamurafr/ ...while Nakayama drew Ingrid’s sprite at the request of Norihide Fuji (who was Ingrid’s lead designer). xcancel.com/ome_yocan/st... xcancel.com/ome_yocan/st... 2/2
Although only two graphic designers were credited for the characters in Capcom Fighting Jam, other employees contributed to the game's development, particularly in creating the sprites for the various Midnight Bliss sprites. For example, Eri Nakamura created Chun-Li's sprite... 1/2
Pictures of the Tetsujin, the tool used by Irem's graphic designers to create 2D graphics in the late 80s-early 90s. I heard it was also used at Cultrue Brain (and Toaplan?) xcancel.com/satoshi_dona...
Takashi Tokita wasn't part of the Final Fantasy I development team, but Akitoshi Kawazu asked him to draw the sprite for the Death machine. xcancel.com/Takashi_Toki...

I'm looking at some paintings by Alexander Rothaug (1870 – 1946) and some of them remind me of Simon Bisley's work, both in terms of color choice and the way the musculature is depicted.
Looking at the flyer for the arcade version of Fantasy Zone again, I realise there’s a certain stylistic resemblance to that of Teddy Boy Blues, with the same line thickness.
