An Tobar was a really lovely space to present The Thin Places in yesterday. A great conversation with the audience/participants, and some lovely stories.

Fidden Cove on Mull, at once both land and sea - described by one source as one of "the thinnest places I have ever been to". It certainly felt like a liminal place with the cloud so low today.

The view west out to sea across Fidden Cove on the Isle of Mull - sand, blackened rocks and pink granite islands in the distance, all touched by the low cloud.

Some of this week’s work: three Scottish thin places marked on the map.

Three hand-drawn ‘standees’ that are, I like to think, like the Dr Who cutouts from boxes of Weetabix when I was a kid. These three show the tower of Balmoral, a mermaid and an iron dagger, standing on a map of Scotland.

I had a great time yesterday visiting the first public outing of #TheINVESTIGATIONS, as part of @royalderngate.bsky.social's GENFEST2025. Annis McGee from In Good Company ran the 'core' version of the game - a make-a-show-in-a-day research and storytelling workshop.

Just finished @adamroberts.bsky.social‘s By the Pricking of her Thumb, which I loved. It’s the second of two future-set detective novels - both gripping and philosophically absorbing. Highly recommended.

This week I got to try out a new 4-song version of my Songmapping project for colleagues and students at Leeds School of Arts. Really useful questions and feedback. I enjoyed this accidental song mash-up I made when clearing away.

4 drawings of songs layered on top of each other: faces, stick figures, characters, Tallahatchie Bridge, Clapham Common, all drawn in black lines, plus a large number (99 in fact) of red balloons, all combined.

Next Wednesday I'm SONGMAPPING at the Drawing Articulations symposium at Leeds School of Arts (where I teach). A songmap is a drawing of a song done in the time it takes to play the song. This is an attempt at Jefferson Airplane's WHITE RABBIT, a tricky 2m31s! www.leedsbeckett.ac.uk/events/sympo...
