Moth trap failure last night, so for the last day of #NationalMothWeek here are some of the moths we recorded at this time last year. While our moth numbers in the Perth Hills are low through winter, we still get quite a bit of diversity. #teammoth #ausinverts #wildoz #Lepidoptera #inaturalist

A #MysteryMoth for #NationalMothWeek This small moth was a new visitor to our Perth Hills garden this week. I haven’t been able to ID it yet but that striking resting position makes me think it’s likely in the subfamily Yponomeutinae #teammoth #ausinverts #wildoz #Lepidoptera #inaturalist

A rather smart new visitor to our Perth Hills garden this week. This is one of the Bagworm moths (Psychidae), but I haven’t been able to ID this moth more specifically than that. ID suggestions are always welcome. #teammoth #NationalMothWeek #ausinverts #wildoz #Lepidoptera #inaturalist

This incredibly tiny wasp visited our moth light this week. She was only 4-5mm in length and a new observation for our Perth Hills garden. She’s a Megastigmus sp. wasp I think, given that relatively large black wing spot she has. #ausinverts #wildoz #inverts #Hymenoptera #wasps #inaturalist

Wet and windy in the Perth Hills this weekend so no mothing for us tonight, I fear. This time last year, we recorded this Pantydia sp. moth (I think) at our moth light... which was unusual as this genus is usually seen in our summer months. #teammoth #ausinverts #wildoz #Lepidoptera #inaturalist

A beautiful sunny winter's morning is the perfect time to catch these amazing male Bird of Paradise flies (Callipappus sp) flitting about in search of a female. Despite their common name, these are not actually flies but a species of scale insect. #ausinverts #wildoz #inaturalist #bugsky #inverts
