This week I was at the MN Cooperative Summit in Duluth. I learned about the long and storied history of co-ops in MN and how they allow everyone to thrive in our economy.
Our city is reeling from mass shootings and gun violence this past weekend. I want you to know that the City takes this very seriously. My colleagues and I are taking steps to help ensure all of our neighborhoods are safer.
I am excited to be working with community leaders towards a pocket park on 38th Street & 4th Ave. We had a great meeting about this project today. This community-driven project will bring much needed investment and attention to the 38th street corridor.

I had a great time touring Ward 8 today with Public Works Director Tim Sexton. Our route included ongoing street reconstruction projects, storm drain projects, as well as some of the traffic safety areas that I’ve been hearing about from (some of my youngest!) constituents.

Now that summer is in full swing, the City has activated its Summer Safety Plan to help keep our neighborhoods and city safe over the summer months. My office is hosting an event for City and County officials to come share about the plan and specifics to Ward 8.
I had a great time connecting with neighbors at Trust INC’s quarterly Coffee & Conversation event yesterday. I joined my colleagues from Ward 11 and 12, and got to connect with many Southside Senior community leaders.

I had a great time at Open Streets Lyndale yesterday! Thank you to everyone who attended and everyone who made the event possible. I am excited for every opportunity to celebrate vibrant and safe streets for everyone!
Following the trend that we are seeing across the country, data center developers are now attempting to bring data centers to Minneapolis. Over the past month, lobbyists have been visiting City Hall and making it clear that they want to open new data centers soon.
Despite repeated pushback from the City Council and community, the Mayor’s administration brought back the proposal to acquire land for a $38 million Public Safety Training & Wellness Center.
This coming Monday, May 25th, join Rise & Remember for their annual free community street festival, concert and candlelight vigil in George Floyd Square! Come support small BIPOC businesses as the festival will host over 75 vendors. I can’t wait to be in community with you!
Today is Bike To Work Day! It was great to be with other bike commuters. I hope we can continue celebrating this sustainable way of commuting, and working towards a city where everyone can bike, walk, roll and share our streets safely and joyfully.

The 2026 Cinco De Mayo Festival celebration on Lake Street last weekend was a wonderful community gathering! Make sure to keep supporting our immigrant small businesses that make our city the special place that it is!
Yesterday I had the honor of joining Council Member Chavez’s presentation of the resolution recognizing the historical significance of dia de la Batalla de puebla, the Mexican holiday of Cinco de Mayo.
The City Council took a big and important step today! I was proud to stand with community members and my Council colleagues in unanimously supporting the S.A.F.E. Firearms Regulations Ordinance.

Today I had the honor of presenting Sabathani Community Center the Public Health Hero Award for Sustainability, Healthy Homes and Environment. Sabathani is a Ward 8 cornerstone, and one of Minnesota’s oldest African American-founded nonprofits.
