day 5 of Knee Broken. seeing orthopaedics today! had some friends over last night which was a nice change in my increasingly fixed routine. isaac has been trying out my crutches when i am sitting down (see below) and roxy has started headbutting my foot to show that she loves it.
got a little mentally restless; wrote about my bus commute buttondown.com/waverlysm/ar...
here's what I put – do not copy it word for word, but you can have it as a basis for your own comment if you want.
I don’t really “get homesick” for family stuff at all, but friends? man. Man
thought too long for post, i'm so sorry, i will go catch a bus back to my hiding cave now
drinking a cocktail called the Love Wins! Margarita at the opera. San Francisco is great this time of year
we only stayed at trans march for an hour or so (because we are fancy bitches who are going to the opera's pride concert tonight and we needed to recuperate) but what a joyful thing to be surrounded by colleagues in gender
i really appreciated this @emilystjams.bsky.social interview on "trans panic media" – why it happens, why it's a suboptimal way of engaging with the moment, how to respond to the very real horrors without freaking out and shutting down and disengaging. episodes.ghost.io/trans-media-...
Bay Area friends, is anyone looking to adopt a cat? Moxie is being fostered by a colleague of mine, but badly needs to be an only cat. A sweet, snuggly nine month old lady who is litter trained and comfortable being handled. Please share if you can! I can put you in touch with her foster mother.
we also saw three incredible drag costumes exhibited by drag performer Nymphia Wind, who won a recent season of Drag Race. when i tell you the details do not translate to television!! she is a consummate artist.
today we went to the SF Asian Art Museum to see Chiharu Shiota's "Two Home Countries." it's named for a piece that speaks to her experience as an immigrant to Germany, but there were also pieces that came from her experience of cancer – and also this insane yarn tunnel, like an artery.
why do i feel like the castro theatre is actively putting a curse on me with this
finished! this was fun as hell to construct, honestly. and I still love knowing there’s a subway hidden in there
I opened my birthday gift from Isaac a few days early and i am amazed at the level of totally unnecessary detail in this New York City skyline. there’s a little subway! totally hidden away!
please everyone help me manifest Roxy taking a shit today, she's been holding out on me for two days and I'm increasingly concerned
then, when I logged on this morning, I saw this in the lab Slack our long national nightmare is over thank you for coming on the mouse semen journey with me. six months! it had better be the premium shit, i am just saying.
then ANOTHER email, from a NEW COURIER, invoicing us for last-mile transportation services between the airport and the lab. at this point I was just relieved to know it was in transit, though I have a lot of questions for the first courier. late on Friday, I got a photo of a big cardboard box.
it’s hard to capture because it’s mainly visible when she’s walking (thus harder to photograph) but I hope you nonetheless enjoy Belly
deleted some politics posts because i know better at my big age. here's my lovely cat instead
