Here’s the prayer for Juneteenth that I’ve included in my prayer book. Today’s the day we celebrate in honor of that day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to ensure all enslaved people were freed, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

A student in my psalms class at Fuller Seminary recently visited the Coptic Museum in Cairo, Egypt. While there, she saw firsthand the oldest complete Psalter in the Coptic language, the Mudil Psalter, dating back to the late 4th or early 5th century. So crazy, so cool.
