Just got home from Fat Freddy’s in Welly. Oh My God. EPIC does not do it justice. That was wonderful.

In memory of my dear ginger cat Mo, who died a year ago today. We miss you Momo. You were an enthusiastic and loving adopter of stray kittens, and both Sam and Minnie are here because of you. We think of you every day, and wish you were still with us. We love you.

Mo in his basket on his last night with us. The old-school wicker cat basket is done-shaped with a hole at the front where the door goes, and a handle on top for carrying. Mo is in his favourite spot in the basket, head resting on the side. He’s giving me a look. It’s very deep.

Mo giving Sam a wash while they relax on my sofa together. Sam would often come up and give Mo a big nudge for attention, and Mo was always very obliging. He really loved his young protégé, who he adopted as a stray kitten when they both lived on the farm (in their life before me). Mo has both paws wrapped round Sam’s next, their heads close together. Sammy loved Mo so very much. He was terribly sad when Mo died. We all were.

Minnie, Sam and Mo in their nests on my desk, in front of my computer screens. We would often spend the evening together like this - me working, and the three cats sleeping peacefully next to each other. Minnie, Sam and I still do that, but now there’s an empty nest where Mo used to be.

Mo, Sam and Minnie together on my bed. Quite a rare photo as Sam was never particularly keen on Minnie sharing close space with him and Mo. I think he saw Mo as “his” because they were together for six years before they came to Cat’s Rescue and Mo adopted Minnie (or perhaps Minnie adopted them). In this photo he’s asleep, so perhaps he hasn’t noticed yet. You can see how giant Mo is, particularly in comparison with Minnie. One of Minnie’s favourite games was play-fighting with Mo, until he got too old and frail to enjoy it any more. I don’t think she really understood why it wasn’t allowed any longer, and sometimes used to ambush him in the hope he’d play like he used to. Poor old Mo. Even then, he was remarkably patient and never got mad with her. Such a gentle soul.

May I present to you the biggest stick insect I have ever seen in my garden. I think she’s mating (much smaller male on her back?). Bigger than my hand by quite a margin. Fabulous!

A large brown stick insect (20cm long?) resting in my rose bush. There’s a much smaller stick insect (also brown) on her back which I think is the male she’s mating with. I hope she didn’t eat him afterwards!

My hand next to the stick insects as a size comparison. Granted I have quite small hands, but still - she’s a big one!
