14. Starfleet Academy I have mixed feelings here, but I think it's more my distaste for modern Trek and the death of the optimistic/utopian Federation. I think the characters have some fun dynamics that sadly won't get much expanding on since the show's only getting one more season. Too bad
13. Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender This was... fine? So much of this is kinda just stuff that Korra already did in the future, but nobody ever mentions. If we had gotten this 15 years ago, I think it would have been really good. The animation was solid as hell, though. Real glad it wasn't AI.
12. The Amazing Digital Circus Did I watch this just because of the trans bunny girl getting spoiled? Yes Did I enjoy it? Yes Would I have ever watched it without the spoilers? No I will admit to misjudging this series because it was "popular internet show" & that's usually not my vibe P Good
I've said many times: "Oh, to be a Hooby girl..." Well it's happened! I commed @hoobydoodles.bsky.social to immortalize my favorite and best look from SGDQ and now I have a pfp that is much more "me" than my old one was
Friday #SGDQ look and I gotta say: Chat, she's fucking sick with it
Oddly gender-affirming thing: I finally have a picture of me being all sexy and presenting fem as my grindr pfp and all the cis guys are desperate to fuck me now (it's this one btw)
Went out completely presenting fem for the first time today and holy hell was it freeing. Something so magical in finally being able to show this version of me to the world, and in being seen as this person without judgment or concession, just acceptance. I'm so happy that I got to be me today.
Organizing my games shelves and, damn, the back of the original God of War has such an awesome tagline on it.
11. Mina the Hollower Pretty fun but also kinda frustrating Main gameplay: Fun! Tower climbs: ow my eyes Art: Cute as heck! Getting to the Orrery: counterintuitive Music: Kaufman hits gold again! Ending: I see the idea but I'm so tired of downers A fun 20-30 hours, but leaves an odd taste behind
"Gee, who could have seen that coming" - girl whose pfp is literally her as Squall's Triple Triad card ff-resonance.vercel.app
10. The Boys S4-5, Gen V S2 Mostly watched these so I can stop wondering about them. Kinda bland and honestly, I'm sort of tired of all the "shitty people being shitty to each other all the time" media. Also more hamfisted with the politics than I need (but others obviously do)
9. Twin Peaks Season 1 I've been watching this an episode a week with some friends and we were all super invested. I get the hype now, but even the season finale raised more questions without answers! Super excited to dig into Season 2 soon! Seems like this Lynch guy was onto something...
8. Flower of the Underworld by @ciricegray.itch.io I saw a lot of Mada fanart and read about her in PE before getting around to this one. But there's so much here that is relatable and sad and sweet. Can sum the book up with: Aww, poor baby Yay Mada, no Yay Oh, shit Aww, poor baby MADA, NO!!
7. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Ended up binging the whole thing. Lots of good Trek but also a lot of the messing with and not understanding Trek that has been the case ever since the reboot movies and Discovery. Enjoyable, but occasionally frustrating and confusing if you're deep into the lore.
I think the idea of a holiday revolving around making fun of people not remembering what day it is and doing things that break from what might be a comforting routine is bad, actually.
6. Millenium Actress (2002) - Dir. Satoshi Kon Very much still absorbing this but dear lord, was it good. Stunning animation, touching and heart-breaking story, and phenomenal use of framing device to show all the various points in Chiyoko's life. Just breath-taking. I'm not crying, you're crying!
5. The Persephone Effect by Maria Ying HUOOOH MY GOOODS EVERYTHING HAPPENS AND ITS SO GOOD BUT OH NO ITS SO BAD AHHH I'm sad, hungry, and horny now ; -; Everything about Hades Calculus cranked up to 11. Also really cool to see @callistokhan.bsky.social folded into the mix I need the next book
4. Memory of Olympus by Maria Ying A good way to get back into the Gunmetal Olympus universe after reading Hades Calculus and Zeus Constant last year. Short stories that flesh out non-POV characters and give a fun, cute/scary/sexy look into their worlds. Next is Persephone Effect (I am not ready)
3. Magica Riot: Full Bloom by Kara Buchanan (@magicariot.com) Ohhhh wow if I thought the first book hit me hard. I cried so many times reading this it's just amazing. You can feel the love Kara put into this one just blasting off the page. Buy this book. Every single one of you, buy it now.
2. Jade Evergreen and the Perils of Polybius by Kara Buchanan Fun little side story between Magica Riot books, setting up characters for Full Bloom. Would love to see more of Jade's time being Portland's one-and-only magical girl! Always a fan of bite-sized world building
1. Magica Riot by Kara Buchanan (@magicariot.com) First book of the year was this fun romp about a queer magical girl band in Portland. Got called the flam out in the first few pages (positive). Real hopeful and trans joy vibes that we need right now. Love these girls and need more of them!
Just got a letter from TPUSA. Didn't open it, but marked it RTS and put a fun little doodle on the back for Erika
